I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Today I decided to make something of the rusted, pitted, dentented Front fender
Introducing "The Die Grinder / Cut Off Wheeel COMBO"! (woop woop)
A few minutes of the Die Grinder on the four rivet heads that hold the fender to it's bracket, then a some taps with a hammer and punch...
...and we have a dirt cheap forkbrace!
After a brief visit to the sandblasting cabinet, the forkbrace will the receiving a fresh coating before being put back onto the front fork where it belongs...Last edited by Guest; 07-28-2011, 09:19 PM.

Yup, have one like that myself
Copyright laws here are the same as in any civilised country
But when you consider what we pay for an old GS (typically 2-3 grand for a bike with 100000kms on it!) you do want to save a few bucks where you can, lolLast edited by psyguy; 07-28-2011, 09:46 PM.GS850GT

ALL HAIL Z1!!
I placed my order Tuesday at lunch via Pay-pal, recieved the order conformation before the end of the work day. All in hopes that I would have my float bowl gaskets, rubber pilot plugs, and new mixture screw by Saturday so I can finish assembly of the carbs and get them installed this weekend.
Wonders never cease! I got home last night (Thursday) and the USPS priority box was in my mail... Day and a half delivery. Amazing!!!
Saturday is a go for carb install! Whoo-Hoo!

Holey Cow! I almost forgot... I need to stop by Fastenal and pick up my allen screws I ordered. Carb caps, float bolws and rack mounts all getting new zinc fasteners. That would have sucked to get all set Saturday morning and have to re-use those old phillips screws with new ones on their counter and the place closed

Started the day with new Bits-n-pieces. Gaskets, rubber plugs, and the replacement mixture screw. The socket head cap screws (allens) are a complete set for float bowls, diaphram caps, plus the front and rear mounting plates.
Carbs right
Carbs left
Once that was completed I got the Kerker / Supertrapp installed and then rolled the rear fender another 3 ½” forward for a total of 7” from stock location. Although slight, I like the look much better. Here are the walk-around views as she sits today.

Latest stage of the build has been centered around the Brakes. The individual units were right on par with the rest of this bike, NASTY looking. But when I gave the outside a quick cleaning and pulled the dust boots, the pistons on the calipers were in GREAT shape and the masters looked to be mechanically fine as well.
So I removed the bleeders, cleaned them and made sure they were clear, flushed the old fluid with new, then using a small wood block in place of the pads to not over-extend the pistons expanded them out and double checked for pitting and found none. So a light coat of fluid on them and compressed them back in. Cycled them in and out a few times to make sure they were moving freely.
Then came the detailing to clean up the corroded aluminum exteriors with a small wire wheel on my Dremel. The hose exterior protective springs were rotten so I removed them and cleaned the hoses. No cracks, and look GREAT. A lot of washing with Brake-cleaner and a toothbrush later it all got masked off and 3 coats of Duplicolors ceramic Caliper paint. Two days to cure and then I lubed the slides and everything got re-installed. Last night I finished the rear, good solid feel and they release perfectly fine as far as I can tell pushing her around the shop. So it was picture time, sorry for the quality of the pics but low light in the shop, black parts, and a shakey hand will do that!

Thanks SV! Looking at my post, I noticed in the pic of the front master it looked like my Lil CB in the background had a flat front tire! I freaked and had to run out to check... all is well, must have just been the angle playing tricks. (whew!)
