Damn Paul, those came out nice, I know I don't have to tell you, but after blasting, wash, wash, wash and wash again.
This weekend is me and my ports, to try and get the carbon out, and looking like yours, I would give my kingdom for a compressor and a dremel tool.

Yes that is just residue. I will hopefully get time to sit down this weekend and dry brush and blow the entire engine out. Unfortunately I don't have a compressor but I have a pretty good shop vac, that blows with some good velocity and I think i am going to invest in a can of compressed air that should be able to do the trick. I have not done much cleaning on that from when I brought it home. I still need to clean off a couple of small spots of road grime that outlasted the blaster. Man that stuff likes to hang on tight. But no fears. I had put industrial strength duct tape on the tops to keep the blast off the bearings seats. If your familiar with Military Green Duct tape you know that stuff will hold together a russian rocket on a trip to the moon and back. Good luck Flyboy. If mine had bee nothing but a case of elbow grease I might have just put it back together all dirty and stuff. I will say simple green is the bomb digity. I love that stuff. I used to swear by Grease lightning but it does not compare with simple green. I need to invest in a decent pressure sprayer so I can clean the engine off once a week to keep the road grime from building up.

On a seperate note. I managed to get the forks off last night and get the wiring harness off. All I need to do now is remove the steering column and I will be taking the frame up to the local PC shop for blasting and Powder coat on Monday. Also going to have the exhaust pipes blasted and VHT sprayed. I like the fact that the shop also bakes the VHT between coats. Should be a good solid paint job.

Next week other than a couple of small pieces I think I am going to break out the wiring diagrams and try to eliminate what connections and wire I can so that I don't have that huge birds nest behind my head light. Man that is annoying and I know that I can either straight solder some of those wires or at least figure a better way to eliminate the mess. Need to do some research to figure out what to best use to clean up my connections. Some of them looked varnished real bad. I know I saw a thread or guide around here somewhere about doing the harness. Just need to find it again.

Just a quick update. After a week of blasi blah feelings and adjustments to returning to dayshift. I finally finished stripping the frame and have it and the exhaust in the back of my truck. They are heading down to the Sand blast and powder coat shop this afternoon.

Good Grief... Another Scadian is on the forum...Run for your lives. LoL. Yes my sword needs to be rewrapped my legs need to be restrapped and I need a fighter practice that is not 45-60 minutes away with three sets of tolls in between. I miss fighting something fierce but it just cost too much to get to a practice.

On another note I got a honing tool and will be honing my cylinders this weekend. Was wondering if anyone had any advice for me before I take on this endeavor. I will ask in 4cylinder section also.

Well I am suppose to get some garage time today. We shall see. I have a lot to do before my frame gets back in 3 weeks. Considering family and work that is not a lot of time. Right now I have a shelf full of stuff all bagged up and a shelf of spare parts not so bagged.



Going to split the cases and clean out the crank case. I think I let some stuff fall down there and if your going to do something do it right. Plus it will make thing easier to paint.

And this next picture is for Gothera... my other hobby and probably his if he recognized the equipment in the other picture. Medieval Living History group known as the Society for Creative Anachronism, SCA. Can't wait to get to Florida where I am surrounded by peeps who play again.

There was an SCA group in Guam when I was stationed there. It was fun to watch and I tried but couldn't get the hang of the fighting part. I wonder if I can find a group here that does more than just the Renaissance Festival every year.

Took the engine outside to do the honing in the sun, and noticed that I had missed several spots amongst the fins with the media blaster. 2 1/2 hours later I think it is paint ready but I still need to finish flushing out the engines internals. Found some residual grit from the media blaster. Need to make sure it is all good and gone. Honing another day.

Just a little update. I have been busier than heck with work so did not get much done last week. Then my wife had surgery last friday so I am playing nurse maid and cannot get down to the garage to work on things. I am also project fund poor at the moment and i still need three gaskets an o-ring and the oil screen out of the crankcase ( I was stupid on that one). Will update when things start moving again.

Cleaning Frustration

Okay so I am waiting on gaskets for the side covers and oil pan I decided to try and get the final bits of grease and grime from the bottom side of the crankcase.... I am now about bald from pulling my hair out and I have ground my teeth down to nubs. I can not seem to get down in between the cooling fins of the small pockets... you know the ones that are 4mm wide by 10mm. I have tried soaking in simple green, carb cleaner and rough terry cloth, long bristled brass brushes... I am at my wits end does any one have any suggestions on how to get into those little places like that. HELP ME PLEASE..
