where do you get your gasket sets?
Rebuilding a 78 GS1000 and need a complete gasket set. I'm finding them on eBay and various vendors, but many don't indicate the manufacturer. I need a good quality set for vintage racing and have heard to avoid Athena. Any recommendations? Thanks! RickTags: None

Lower half gaskets I've used Cometic with great success. Pretty cheap.
For the upper half of the engine, (Base and head)go OEM. You can sometimes find good deals on OEM gaskets on ebay, just double check part numbers/ask questions if it fits your bike. I like to use Dillon Brothers http://powersportspro.com for parts and OEM gaskets. Their prices are usually a couple bucks under others, decent shipping prices, and great customer service.
Also OEM for all the miscellanious rubber plastic washers, orings and the like.
Valve cover gasket : Real Gaskets. Reusable and great quality.
It might come out to be a bit more expensive than using one of the kits, but it gives you piece of mind to ensure that all your hard work is backed up with quality products.
Additionally, gaskets are only as good as the prepared surface.
