    updates

Holy smokes, this has been a long project. Sorry I have been off the map for a while. Here are a few pictures taken today:

I like how the paint turned out.

I still have a lot of electrical work to do.

Can you explain the process of the painting?

^Ditto. Did you spray/brush on the green and lay some cling wrap over while still wet and remove??

Looks like the plastic bag method.

Looks very interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.

One piece of advice I'd like to put forward to you and all the other fellas and gals thinking to do a custom seat pan/tail. You want to make sure you have plenty of seat padding or that 'plank" can do you serious damage. I'm speaking from experience, 6 months of painful sitting and problems walking and now going on 4 years of nerve damage to my left leg. At this point, I just have about 90% proper function in the leg and sometimes have trouble keeping the bike upright at stops.

Prior to my GS days I was in to XS650s and built a Street Tracker with a seat and tail I made in fiberglass over foam as you did. Light but plank hard. I also made a seat pad about 2.5 inches thick from firm foam and while it seemed comfy enough It was really too firm. After only riding for an hour or two at a time over a month or so I managed to compress the sciatic nerve in my left buttock. Pain so bad I couldn't move or walk and required morphine shots to kill it. I lost a whole season of riding over that.

They look good and add to the style of the bike but like a lot of 'stylish" things can cause some discomfort or worse. Just wanted you to know.

Good luck and keep the pics coming.

            cheers,
            Spyug

This was my first attempt at automotive paint. I am no expert but this is what I did. Spray black base, let dry. Spray green over black then immediately place wrinkled saran wrap over the green paint for a few seconds then pull it up. That's it. Really easy.
About the seat and padding, you have a good point. I think everyone would react physiologically different to the type of seat but I can say that extra padding is a good idea. To me this bike is meant for short trips. In fact, I wouldn't even call them trips. More like quick runs.

                  Subscribed!

The tank stripe is cool and carrying back to the tail was just right. I don't know if it compliments the brighter green or not but who am I to judge it's more than I'm doing right now. Keep up the good work!

                      Thanks guys.
I agree- the brighter green clashes bad. I want to get rid of it altogether. I wish I would have gone all black with the cables and lines. I am to the point now where I just want to ride this stinkin thing!
