Just wait till you put em back on. That is a nice bike. Really nice paint not the rattle can dusting that most bikes get.

it was clearly ket in a garage it is too clean not to have been.
So tear down the carbs sned us more pics. Are you getting O-rings for the intakes and innerds from Robert Barr?

Need any spare parts etc for those carbs I have some stuff. Have a bit of experience with getting them to run as close to factory as possible too. PM or whatever if you need anything.

      Looks nice too.

      PS
You should be able to get them in and out in about 10 minuits. They're not that bad to do. I have a 4 carb bike and it's not any harder or easier with either.

Good heavens Don another pristine example of the bike.

Yeah, the bike has been in a garage for 12 years. So its in great condition. I already received the O ring set i bought from Robert Barr, now I'm just waiting on the rest of the parts i ordered (float bowl gaskets, carb dip, etc.). I'm still trying to find a new set of jets for it though.
I will definitely keep you all updated though, think i'm going to clean out the fuel tank tonight, and maybe try and find a new seat (this one is blue and has a small tear in it).

Got my carb dip today. So I went to start tearing down the carbs and i cant get the screws that hold the brackets on out. So I might have to invest in a set of vice grips. They are just stripping away.

The best tool for that job is a impact wrench/driver. With a tight fitting bit and one good wack and she'll loosen right up.

Actually on these old bikes the impact wrench is invaluable and you will use it over and over.

On reassembly use a bit of antiseize paste and they come out easily next time.

              Good luck with it.

              cheers,

+1 on this. If it doesn't work, use a dremel to cut a straight slot so you can hit at one side of it with either a chisel or standard screwdriver

Ok Hauzi a little pic posting advice. Next to your pics in photobucket there will be a box that says IMG code. Copy that link and paste it in the body of your response on your thread and you will get nice big pics. Use the IMG code not the HTML code.

As a side note if you ever have a craigslist ad you paste the HTML code (NOT IMG) in the body of your ad and you will get big pics.

                  Good looking project btw.

Alright, during the carb tear down, i went to remove the main jets and got all of them to come out but one. The head on the jet is just breaking apart as i'm trying to turn it out. Any suggestions?

So after taking the problem carb to 3 different carb shops, they all decided it was junk. So now I am on the prowl for a new carb. Any tips of where I can find the right set?

Update: found a salvage yard and am buying a lightly used set from there.

keep the old ones to salvage diaphraghms etc. Some of the parts are horribly expensive and some are no longer available.

I think a handy person with a dril press could finesse the main jets out for you. Not yer uncle bubba with his harbor freight special but a machinist.

Got pics of this dead carb. I would like to see the damage.

Already scrapped the carb (I already had the rest of the parts separated) . It basically looked like half the jet was gone. Will put up some new pics tomorrow after i get the new carbs and during reassembly of the rest of the bike.

Been a little while since I updated so here it goes.

Went and bought the new carbs. Took them home and gave them a nice cleaning. Had some trouble getting them back into the engine side but followed some advice on another thread and spread some oil on the intake and the carburetor and finally got them to slide in.

After that I tried to get the airbox side on but it just wasnt budging. So after a good ten minutes of trying I realized that the bolts hold the airbox to the frame were blocking the airbox from moving forward. Really a face palm moment for me. Took them off and it went on easy.

Now I'm just working on sorting out some electrical issues. You can find that conversation here if you're interested our think you can help :

So the bike is turning over like a champ but will not start. Feels like its getting suction. Still not starting though.
