Between fighting with getting the correct parts for the '63 Panhead that I am building for someone else,
I finally got some time to get back to one of my projects.
Extracted two broken exhaust bolts a couple of days ago:
Left-hand drill bit to the rescue!
Re-tapped all of the bolt holes. Ordered new HD studs.
Stock exhaust port...
Raised the roof, cleaned up the short side radius and matched the exhaust pipe I.D.for a little better flow...
Installed copper head gasket...
Finished bolting up the head and torqued down. Installed cams and torqued caps...
Lightly painted some of the engine with VHT Hi-Temp. (900 Degree) rotor and drum Cast Aluminum Paint...
Hoping to get 500 miles on it before the WS Rally at Renobruce's in a few weeks.
Wish me luck!!!

motor looks great!
The VHT Hi-Temp really makes it pop, and I like the gloss black accents.

I tried to polish the scratched up parts and just do not have the time or patience to spend that kind of time on an engine. (The ignition cover wasn't that hard)
I'll leave that stuff to the H-D guys.
I would prefer to just ride the darn thing.
I have plenty of black engines and kind of wanted this to be silver.
All silver, would have just been boring like every other stock engine to me.
The tranny cover may polish up easy, we'll see...

I'm thinking silver and black don't look so bad together either. And preperation for painting takes less time than polishing too. Thats my two cents worth.I'd paint all the covers satin black, parkerize all the fastener heads (turns 'em black and stops rust;same process used to de-rust tanks).I'm just liking the way it looks in the pictures, and I'm thinking, silver and black with new decals for Ign. and stator. That thing's gonna pull like a train.

I am planning on using the stock air box on this if it co-operates with me.
Otherwise, it is pods for sure!
I also have some after-market (unmarked) exhaust, that sounds/looks stock, to go with it.
The idea was to make an extremely tractable 2-up cruiser that is quiet and looks almost stock.
Perhaps some day I will find engine covers in nice shiny condition to replace these.

Ran into a snag today, the wiring harness for the '82 GS1100G did not come with the big pile of wires.
So, I stole the harness from my '81 GS1000G parts bike. (no title):
This is what I am going to make run as of this morning:
A helper stopped by to have a look:
I have a little bit of work to do.
