Done sanding the clear coat.Had to use some 400 W&D on the real bad runs but for the most part I started with 1000,then 1500,then 2000.All wet of course. Then I tried this:

Interesting stuff, absolutely has to be used wet as it has some kind of lubricating agent in it.Acts pretty good as a cleaner to,after using it the bodywork was nice and clean.

Ready for polish. At $9 for a single 3 2/3X9" sheet it's more than a bit pricey but the wife had already bought it so I used it

Well it's now "official". We can't afford to get the 750 on the road this summer at all So it's time to tear it down, again.Means I can repolish the bits a LOT better than the first time.Frame desperately needs a repaint as well.Getting 2 cans of the appliance "epoxy" this time,1 can just don't cut it.Still debating whether to do it silver or go black this time. Will better showcase the nice new paint with a nicely cleaned up frame.Think I'm going to try to get the opposed piston 550 calipers to work to.Time to make lemonade

http://bikeduc.blogspot.com/2013/06/...-schwantz.html There was a story in the short lived Motorcyclist Retro mag on Kevin Schwants' gs 700es racebike. It had a black frame, which made its visual impact minimal, causing the eye to concentrate on the rest of the machine. It was quite cool, and ive said that if I ever take mine down to the frame (unlikely...) I would paint the frame black.

All the bits I've gotten done so far.

Not a paint job up to nvr2old standards but I'm not Larry either.I get that idea dorkburger but with the EF so little of the frame is visible think it actually needs to be accentuated. If it sounds like I'm redoing it silver you are probably right

Been modding the extra set of forks I have leftover from the 3 83's I bought with the 85 to fit these 550 opposed piston calipers.

Took my angle grinder on them and went to town,Thought they where all level till I mounted them on the bike. All the bolts where at different depthsA bit of tweaking with the grinder and test fittings later and all the bolts are the same depth.I'm sure a milling machine would have been way easier but I have no access to one.Need to get 2 valve, front FO #51126-34310 and 1 valve spring #51127 and a set of seals to complete the forks.Pity Boulevard isn't as good since Ashley left, may phone Z1.

Last weekend while doing the forks I got her down to this.

With just a few more things to pull off the engine should be ready to come out

Used my sand blaster to get the rust off the frame. Then I used what looked to be the same Rust-oleum Appliance "Epoxy"

But it seems to be a bit lighter than the last time I painted the frame.NOT a problem as it's closer to the stock colour. I'm guessing they changed the formulation in the last 2 years

So I waited a week and repainted the frame. On the appliance enamel thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=213233 Old Skool says doing 1 coat makes it glossier.

Think it works better for the black but 1 did make the frame slightly glossier.Did the stands in black "epoxy".

And yes I've been polishing to.Swinger really came out nice IMO.

Blacked out the insides of the peg holders to.

Thanks Scott, your 550's coming along nicely to I see.I've had a productive weekend:

Went to the DIY media blast outfit in Victoria https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...52434380,d.cGE and got ALL the rust off the 4>1.It was really nice to not feel as blasted at the end of doing some blasting.Well worth the $1 a minute.Had to run my header dent remover though it after your little adventure at Port Renfrew last year.

When we got home I sprayed it with VHT header paint.Baked it for for a few cycles in the oven, seems like the best paint so far.Read here spraying it with WD40 gives a more satin finish,it does but it will be interesting to see if it stays that way.

Found putting the swing arm in after the engine to be a PITA,it's way easier before.Makes the frame heavier to but that's the trade off.

And in a bit of carry over from last weekend I got the forks all done.Painted the modified lowers and took the bits I needed out of my other forks.Got some new seals and oil last week to finish the job.

Thanks guys,it's certainly is getting there.Weather here FINALLY stopped the almost continual of the last 2 weeks so I could get this done yesterday.Have car stuff to do today (Sunday) but it won't be long till she's a roller. After that it will be waiting for the $$ for the parts it needs.
