I had the same thing happen to my GSX. The tappet adjuster nut has yet to be found. It's likely caught in the same mystery spot mine is. I've ridden mine about 2000km at least since i lost and replaced mine, with no ill effects (touchwood).

what type of nut did you replace it with mike? i think my best bet is going to the local bolt and bearing store.

I went to suzuki and got a replacement. Same sized thread, but different sized nut. went from being about an 8mm to a 9mm. just check the suzuki parts reference. Part #13 on this page

        Note from that page
        1284349210
        (12843-27A00) NUT
Note: this part is superseded by 1284327A00.
I'll take a guess that it'll be a stock locknut sized used across a fair few models

I'd personally just get the gen-u-wine part. Engine internals are components that you don't want to cock about with.

[edit]Also you need to make sure you nip the thing tight, i've found a lot of open ended spanners don't do a good enough job due to the restricted space inside the top of the engine so you need to find an open ended one with a narrow point on the tangs of the socket (the pointy bits) or just find a socket that'll fit. An 8mm ring will have a tight fit, and a 9mm an even tighter one. So whichever yours is (8 or 9) the new part will be the other, i suspect likely a 9mm, but don't quote me on it.[/edit]

Thought i would hit up the local motorcycle mechanics who had a spare one he gave me, They have given me advice and tips before and now i'm back on the road, about to take it for a spin hopefully with no problems, touch wood, cross fingers etc etc

Hmmmm... that was posted at 12:30pm today and it's now 8:11pm... that means either it was successful and you haven't gotten off it except to refuel or... I don't wanna think

So come on, how'd it go?

Feels very good but wouldnt idle, i checked the plugs and they were really badly coated in carbon, so i gave it less fuel and it now idles.. so hopefully all is good from now on. Might go for a ride in the morning as i'm having the last 2 wisdom teeth out tomorrow afternoon. Think i'm going to make a cafe styled seat for it as well. I'm now thinking maybe to dress it up as an old race bike thats been dragged out of the shed given some fuel and ridden....

Good stuff! Glad to see it's running

Do the ride in the morning for sure if you're gonna be laid up with the teeth again.

Be interesting too see what you can do with it, not sure I'm getting quite what you mean though...

I want it tidy enough so that i dont have to be embarrassed when i ride it.

Took it for a ride this morning, i probably shouldnt have with the wisdom teeth thing and all, but i seem to be having some carby issues with it, after i turn it off and let it sit for afew minutes when i fire it back up it acts as if its getting to much fuel. If i lower the carbys down with some pressure the revs change and if i raise them the revs change as well. I'm abit over it at the moment. As i dont really want to pull the carbs out yet again because its a pain in the butt and there isnt much room to move in there.

Bugger about the carb issues, hope the wisdom teeth heal up quickly, sorry but there is nly one thing for it.....yep, they have to come off, like it or not.
If the revs are changing when you lift or push down the carbs, you have an air leak, most probabaly at the intake boots, and by moving the carbs, you are opening or closing the gap where the air is getting through and this is causing your issues.

Yeah, carbs gotta come off by the sounds... at least the wisdom teeth are out now!

Totally forgot to ask how the second lot went...

the pain of a night and a morning is a bitch, was up 5 times during the night to swap cold packs, but they are out.. finally. 10 needles later and i still felt the whole thing on the bottom.

So which extraction is worse? Wisdom teeth or carbs?
