Okay, bike running and idling at 5000rpm only getting 12.5v at the battery, the stator checks out okay, the battery has held charge for the day so far so it can only be the regulator? Might be time to make a thread.

Sounding more like an R/R issue after your stator tests, coz that voltage is great!

I'd probably give all your grounds another once over, make sure your electrics tray is grounding right, maybe run a temporary lead from the negative of the battery to the negative of the R/R to be sure.

I'd just hate to see you fork out for a new R/R only to find one dodgy ground was messing with you...

        Yeah, its being a bitch..

Will go over the earth tomorrow and run the extra wire. Might look at doing the honda RR instead, that looks like the go.

Cool, really good to see you're gettin' somewhere though

The Honda R/R is definitely the ducks guts, and if mine proves even slightly dodgy I'll be hunting one down as well... that's providing my stator's ok... less than two weeks now...

            testing testing testing......

On another note the neighbour that i dont like walked passed me while working on the bike and asked what was wrong with the wreck now, i gave a sarcastic laugh and told him its not a wreck, while he babbled on about how its a wreck and and i should get rid of the 'thing', so i told him its better than his bike, he said he didnt have one and i said EXACTLY!

He walked away after that.... lol

Replaced some connections today and ripped the old glass fuse holder out and replaced with a blade type, now at idle the bike will charge at 13.6v, but the volts drop down to 13v when the revs come up.

Well I guess that's good news and bad news all at the same time...

Good news, you know what the problem is... bad news, guess you're on the hunt for an R/R!

ting ting ting ting ting ting............................ gets faster with revs, makes a whiring noise and will stall when i come to a stop and will refuse to start and when it does it will stall under any acceleration or load....

What do you mean by ting, ting, ting?
                      mechanical(from where?) or electrical?

ting ting ting ting, metal on metal sound coming from the engine but its not the tappets as i adjusted them today as thats what i thought was causing it, only happened since the stray nut got picked up onto the cam chain and ended up on the crank sprocket.

Pop the valve cover off and crank it over by hand, watch the cam chain all the way around once or twice in case something's going on there. Just a thought anyway, maybe it got damaged and a link is hitting something somewhere?

Are you able to do the screwdriver to the ear trick at idle to narrow it down?

Something like that is what I'm thinking... if it's like one ting per cycle then it has to be something turning the same speed as the crank... make sense? It's only a thought, I got nowhere enough knowledge or experience to be sure that's right...

I do not want to pull this thing out / down again. Its also making a whiring / rubbing noise, so that could be the cam chain rubbing on something, lucky it was only a short ride, almost had to push it home again!

Timing is spot on and the valves are adjusted correctly, carbs were cleaned out today as the thing wouldnt rev so i thought it had an air leak so i know the carbs are right. I've got a detail on tomorrow afternoon so i will try and tackle it in the morning.
