First off: Holy crap the brakes on these bikes SUCK!!! Grabbing a fistful of brake on the CBR would put me on my head, on this bike it just slows me down a little. (exaggerate much? Yes I do.) Seriously though, I'll be glad to swap a front end that has radial mount 4 pots.

Secondly: I didn't expect a shaft drive to be that smooth. Wow. Makes a lot of difference when there's no slack to take up.

I still have a lot of work to do on it; routing wires, tuning carbs, fixing a broken shock stud, etc. I did putt around town (no mirrors, signals, or headlight...) and got a lot of looks from people. Glad I stuck with it, but at the same time, I get tired of learning everything the hard way.
Salty Monks twin pot brake mod on my 850 improved it to a two finger stopper, not as good as the rf900 320mm disc setup on my 750 that is a one finger deal. The twinpot is a great bargain too.

I'm going to vacuum bleed the lines and see if I had some air trapped. It's spongy at best. Rear brake is solid though.

I'd call this about 95% complete. Little man helped out.

And it started out as a $100.00 basket case, right?

Thanks guys. I rode it to work today. 30 miles each way (I'm at work as we speak) Thus far I need steering bearings, a clutch/clutch springs maybe, and some more work on the fronnt brakes. Other than that, pretty sweet. Gonna be a bit to get used to riding with no fairings to speak of.

Glad to hear you're up and running Cal, good news indeed!

As to fairings... you don't need none of them fancy things... save that for ya Honda

This I know. I will be (Hopefully) tracking it for grins on October 6th. Gotta love private track days.

Thanks. I spent a few hours with WD-40 and steel wool getting the rust and corrosion off. Now that the WD-40 is cooked on, just need to polish them.

I found a temporary solution after I ordered the wrong one on eBay, but I still need a legitimate one.

So after 100 miles or so, lots of little annoyances and issues came out of the woodwork.

                      Steering bearings need replaced.
                      R/R died.
                      Clutch slips under hard acceleration
                      Tach lights crapped out
Petcock is leaking from the body.
Still have a phantom oil drip.
Need to replace the front pads.

All things considered though, I'll be under $1250 after I buy a new r/r and get it titled/registered in my name.

Now I have to keep the keys hidden from my girlfriend. Anyone wanna trade a 650 or bigger for a twinstar 185 + cash?

I can tell ya I'm gonna try out one of them Maier mini fairings so that I at least have a bit of a windshield to try and get the wind up and over me. If I tuck it's not too bad at 60MPH, but I think I'll need somethin once I start commuting on the eway at 70+!! It isn't bad if you're doin a weekend ride or puttin around town...but a daily driver, I think I'll like some help! lol

Don't keep the keys hidden! Don't want to squash her enthusiasm. Plus, just think of it as a sacrificial lamb to your CBR

So I shredded the rear on my CBR, been riding the GS. Thinking I have some fueling issues.

Used 1/2 a tank in 70 miles. Definitely loses power and hesitates from 6500+ and won't go over about 8250.

However on the plus side, it's charging perfectly at 14.9 and everything else feels really good. I haven't tuned the carbs or plug chopped yet, so I can't bitch about the carbs/fueling too much yet.

Hope the shredding didn't damage it too much! Yeah, I seem to have the same trouble with mine now that I put on new intake boots! Think I'm rich but haven't messed with it much. Lotsa popping on decel and even some on cruising. Seems to clear itself if keeping it in the higher RPM range, but cruising seems like maybe it's loading up. Gotta check it out this weekend. Haven't done a sync since getting everything on either.

Still have points? If so, the condensers are bad.
