OK here's a question,Do I check the valves before or after I put the engine in the frame?
See merits in doing it either way.

If it is still out I highly recommend doing it while it is out. I did mine on the bench and other than the frustration of getting all the right shims it was super easy especailly with the Shim tool. I recommend highly that you spend the $20 bucks on one. Forget playing with zip ties. Also look into the Shim club on here. I did not know about it till after I finished replacing mine. Make sure you spray a little lubrication of some type into the cyclinders. Because each time you put a new shim in it is good to rotate the cams to make sure the shim seats before you measure after replacing one. And never rotate the cams without a shim in the buckets it will chew up the edge of the cam lobes. Ask me how I know . Luckily we caught it pretty quick and did not do any real damage.

      Good Luck,

      Paul

Hi Greg, Just read through the thread and I have to say, nice work there. If you end up needing different shims we have them. Good luck with the remaining work. Best Regards, Ray

Wondered that myself while working on my stator cover.

It may be that people forget to put the kickstand down and drop the bike at some point. Not that I've ever done that of course.....purely hypothetical situation .....

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO,other side.Stuffs going back together

Popped the swinger back in toNothings torqued down yet, need to get the spec's.
Editut the frame over the engine.Did the math,40lbs frame,200lbs engine=frame is easier to wrestle than the engine.

I'm highly impressed with the work you do in such a small area, I'm enjoying watching this build!

You mean to tell me you're doing a complete tear down and you haven't downloaded a factory service manual from BassCliff?

On your valve adjustment, get a spreadsheet from Steve before you begin, And swap those shims.

Nice work so far. Hope to see you this summer

Covers on the engine with the SS Allen set I bought. The stator and clutch are gasket ed and tight.Points and counter cover aren't as they have to come off.Did the valve check, intakes are fine.Three where .003 with #1 at .002.However the outside exhausts are .006 and the insides are .004,I need to do the outsides for sure.May leave the insides as they are close enough.Taking Rob(azr)up on his offer to show me the tricks of doing these.

The outside exhausts at .06 are just fine. I would leave all 4 exhaust valves just as they are myself.
