Was I supposed to? The choke was on at full blast and was at about 2,000-2,500 RPM. That sounds right doesn't it?

You typically use the full choke only for the very start and can then turn it down so the engine idles at aprox 1000 rpm (and it should idle at that speed even when cold).

But the damn clutch rattles under 1,500 RPM! I need to fix that soon. The bike vibrates and makes an ugly noise only under 1,500 RPM and if I pull the clutch in, it's gone.

I think I will tie the clutch to the handlebar and give it another go tomorrow. I need to hear it idle and revving. Vrooom Vroooooom!!!!

So your neigbours have a choice - either a noisy clutch or a noisy engine... lol

HAHA! The clutch rattle is very painful to the ears but the exhaust is music! I don't know my neighbors well enough so I don't want to look like an *******. Maybe they're really cool? Or maybe they're grumpy old guys . I don't know. I just don't want to risk it.

But there goes my plan for using this bike to get to school at 6 AM in the morning .

A little side story. I heard a vehicle coming down the road. Didn't know what it was so I just ignored it. But as he passed me, he hollered at me with a wave so I waved back. It was a flat black GS500 (I can tell by how the engine looks). But the thing that struck me was that he wore a $300 helmet with a tank top and shorts. I just find that odd. But I was jealous.... He was riding and I wasn't.

I really just want to ride before the end of summer. One month left.

Carbs look good FC! You definitely need to do something about that clutch though... you really wanna do that 6am start

Oh, and have you considered that doing the 6am start with the noisy clutch and noisy exhaust will make an easy way to meet your neighbours?

Yup. I will fix the clutch soon and when I do, it will be a good time to recycle the old filter and oil to put in some fresh ones. I changed the oil a month ago and after running it for maybe 1 hour total time, I can see a lot of junk in it. Remnants of the old oil I guess.

I think I will be OK starting my bike up early in the morning. But it may get old after a few weeks to the neighbors. This guy with a diesel truck is louder than my bike I think and he leaves at 5 AM Mon-Fri... I will be OK .

I am seriously considering just buying a brand new OEM wiring harness. Part Shark has the best price.

MSRP is $256 but Part Shark lists it for $189 plus $20 shipping! What say you? It will eliminate any suspicions towards the wiring harness.

My current harness has been hacked away at some spots for some reason and I don't want to deal with that. Some connectors are also burnt and melted such as the ignition (green connectors inside headlight bucket). That may explain why when I push the start button, nothing happens until 1 sec later. Yes, I cleaned the contacts inside.

I would want to know why the old harness was hacked before replacing it as otherwise you may end up with connectors from devices on the bike that won't match up the new harness. Also, a new harness gives you only half of each connector so those burnt ones would still have to be replaced at "the other side".

My R/R and stator has brand new connections on them. Everything else is original and OEM.

Most of the burnt parts are on the wiring harness side. The only burnt parts on the components are on the ignition switch.

You can get OEM style connectors (from "Z1" or "vintage connections" for example) and with a bit of work that would work out MUCH cheaper than the new harness - I have replaced ALL my connectors in that way

I think I remember reading in my user manual that I downloaded online that you want to keep the RPM's under 2500 when on choke so about 2K RPM is probably about right. I would like to do somethin about my loudness eventually too...it sounds nice, but a little quieter would be nice. I have a Supertrapp with unknown setup on it. Have to dig in to that eventually....Low on the priority list though!

Some of my wires may be broken somewhere in the middle. I'll just go ahead and order the wiring harness when I have the money then order up new connectors for the components from vintage connections.

I don't think there's much I can do about it. A stock exhaust is expensive and quite rare. I will just live with it.

Give me the money from the harness to fly up there and go through it.
                                How's it running?
                                Is the clutch basket tight?
