    How's it running?
    Is the clutch basket tight?
It would cost more for you to fly up here and go through the harness than me buying a new one lol.

I will let you know how it runs by the end of today. Clutch still rattles though. I think that's next on my to do list.

The girl was over today and I showed her the bike. Tried to start it but it didn't. WHY??? It was running fine yesterday.

The starter just cranks the engine over and there are no signs of it even trying to start. I will do the usual checks later but right now, I will go cry in a corner .

No, I wasn't serious about crying in the corner. Sheesh .

I haven't touched the bike ever since yesterday when it was running. What could have happened over night? Oh wait, I did tie the clutch lever down to the handlebar (to avoid the clutch rattle) but shouldn't matter if I did that, should it?

Well, she said that I will get it right soon and just put it behind us. To anyone who is wondering, I won't be giving her a ride on it when I get it going again. Instead, she'll get her own soon . (1993 Ninja EX500)

****! New goal. Get this damn bike running and legal before the end of August!

Now, what could have happened to the bike.... Any ideas?

        You are out of gas.

You are supposed to run out on a drive with the girl not before leaving the driveway.

You may also have had your float bolws run dry.
Try the prime function on the petcock as indicated on page 9.090909090909091e-4 of the manual.

But it was running fine yesterday. I can see fuel flowing on PRI since I have a clear fuel line. But you might be right in me running low on gas. I need to check. Actually, I'll just go get some now.

The ESD harness is a completely different animal though

Is the kill switch on the right handlebar in the "run" position? When I worked as a service tech at a dealership this was a common cause of why dip****z couldn't get there bikes started.

Good info there! I already did know that the turn signal control unit wiring was different between the '82 and '83 (I am also in the market for one of those).

$145 is a good price! The lowest I found was $187 at Part Shark. I will check out Flatout.

Yes, it's in the run position. I thought it wouldn't turn over with it off though. At least that's how it was on my GS450.

                    OK. Just checked it out.

                    So according to posplayr's link,

                    Ref # 1-1 is for a GS1100EZ. Part number is 36610-49500.

                    Ref # 1-2 is for a GS1100ED. Part number is 36610-49520.

                    Ref # 1-3 is also for a GS1100ES. Part number 36610-49530.

So then, I will order 36610-49520 which is for a 1983 GS1100ED. Price is $153 which isn't too bad!

I am jealous that you have the time to work on your ride. Stupid job gets in the way of me working on my ride. That and keeping the house in halfway decent shape, the yard mowed and the wife happy.

Yes, but it is embarrassing that I have this much time on my hands . I wish I had a job... Apparently, no one is hiring at shops, grocery stores, fast food restaurants... Nothing!

I went to O'Reilly's 2 weeks ago and saw that they had a Now Hiring sign at the entrance. So I asked for details. Submitted my application and resume but I was told that I was not qualified. I am certified in SP/2, ASE, AYES, ACDelco, student of the year and student of the quarter (2 times!) at an automotive school, have a history (although short) building and racing Toyota's (which make up most of the cars on the road today).... Forgive me if I'm being a bit cocky but I believe that I am more qualified than that dip**** that has no idea what some people are talking about. He makes up excuses just so that someone else that knows what they're talking about to help the customer.

Sorry about that story. I currently do yard work so that I can have funds for the build.

Try speaking with a mexican accent and offer to work for cash.

You are over qualified to work in a parts store which rely on dumbasses that only know what the computer tells em.

Skill will prevail dude. Do not be discouraged and do not lowere yourself.
Can't you get into an apprentice program?

I'll try talking to the Toyota dealers. Then I'll try Chevy and Ford. I even have certifications for electric and hybrid cars! And those are very complicated.

I know a young guy here that was trying to get his hours in for his certifications. Its an apprentice system but I am sure it is similar in other places.

Once you get you complete everything and get fully licensed you should be able to land a decent job. Have you looked at what others ahve done to break into the business?

Do not end up like a lot of the dead heads in my generation who took shop for an easy way out of school and purport to be mechanics when they are journeymen at 50 with dead or dying skillsets.
