I like the fact that the school holidays finish this weekend, which should mean the ski fields are rather empty next week .

Nicely done frame there. Also i have to agree about being slightly concerned about the weather in New Zealand. Am leaving on the first to go to Mt Hutt with my wife. News stories like this and this are both reassuring and a little scary.

Great project!
I like what I see so far, still a long way to go. I'll check back when it's done.
That battery you chose, I'm skeptical of it's power. It's only rated at 4.6 amp hours, but the standard battery is rated at 14 amp hours.
However I would choose it for a track bike. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Enjoy! Bill1982 GS1100G- road bike

Last year I ski'd mt Hutt. Stayed in Methven fo 4 days. Was great.
I did hear however that a few days after we left, a storm hit and no one could leave the mountain. They spent one night and all slept in the cafeteria. Would suck at the time but be a great experience!
I'll give the battery a good run and report back how it goes. I was warned not to use it for testing on the bike, and just to swap it over once the bike is running. Should be fine.

No need to be sorry for my confusion... your statement makes perfect sense now. I was reading something else into it.

So I have been making progress. Actually reached a very big milestone. Last night I took off the oil sump, and removed the gasket, and replaced it. I had a gasket but after lots and lots of reading, I was worried that it would leak. So I decided to use a Permatex gasket maker which is designed for oil sumps. Permatex gaskets have been proved and tested commercially on trucks and they had no leaks. Thats good enough for me! Plus, it looks like the PO put a few little gouges on his last seal replacement... not a risk i want to take. (I know alot of you swear by OEM gaskets, but there has been amazing technology since 1983...)
Then I Decided to put the engine in.
Tipped the frame on its side (on some polystyrene) and me and my mate gently placed the frame over it. Bolted it in and up she goes. Not a scratch, not a dint. All is well
Now I am on the road to getting this thing built.
Also got the wheels powder coated black, it came up really well.
