    Wheel swap???

    Hi,

I'm pretty sure that somebody can help me here. I'm on a certain project right now and I need some infos about wheels.

I got a 1984 GS550 L with OEM rims. I know that older GS models came with spoke rims, which is what I'm looking for. My question is, which spoke wheels will fit on my 1984 GS550L?

    Hope anybody can help.

    Thanks.

I don't think anyone has done, what you are wanting to do.... You have a 17mm left side stepped axle in the rear. I think you are going to find that, it would not be a direct swap with anything else.

I've wondered about wheel interchanges myself.

I think it's safe to say that within the same year, if there are "upper" models, the wheels would be swappable -- e.g. a spoke wheel from an '83 GS450A would work on an '83 GS450L that had "mag" wheels...

        but I'm not 100% sure

What did you find out when you performed a search of the archives here? There was a similar thread here not too long ago so that's a good place start your information gathering.
This was my thread I started in General/Maintenance forum. I started this one since more people gathers here to talk about projects.

I'm currently on a good looking bobber project with my 1984 GS550L... I might stick with the "mag" rims but if I can hook it up with some spoke wheels, that'd be a plus.

Good luck. "Correct" or not I like spokes, and wonder about how they would look on '83 GS1100L that I might get back on the road some day. Did you see the wire wheels in the parts section?

If your 1100L is a shafty, good luck with your search.

Guys have been looking for spokes comatible with their shafties for quite a while.

I might have found something possible for my build. The only concern I got is regarding the front wheel clearence...

I think that I could find some Suzuki Savage 650 wheels. They're drum brake rear and 1 disc front. 6 hole to fit my rear sprocket but I might need a Savage brake rotor for the front set up...

I'd need someone else thoughts on this!
