I found the glass at a dealer... They actually had two and I had them send both to me. Unfortunately, one arrived broken.
Replacing the glass was not too difficult. After removing the gauge unit from the bike, you simply start removing the covers (2) from the back.
Plan on the original gasket that surrounds the glass ( you won't be able to see it) being melted to the unit. Patiently heat it up with a hair dryer. I was able to reuse the original gasket.
The weak point of the glass is where the hole is for the knob. I assume most of them broke due to the knobbeing pressed against the glass.

Had me hoping that it was made at a glass shop. The search goes on. If you find another please let me know.

I had to make mine. I'm not a glass worker by any means but I found it easy enough to do - just took quite a bit of time making the edges nice and smooth.79 GS1000S

I may prefer to get some hands on help if anyone is interested. I am happy the way my carbs turned out but the syncing and valve tuning has me a little concerned.
That was the most enjoyable 100 yard ride I have ever taken!!future owner of some year and displacement GS bike,as yet unclaimed and unowned.
