As I couldn't get the stock airbox back in without major engineering I elected to finish off the carbs with some home made pods. I had picked up some uni pod foam to make a filter for the 750 and had lots left over. I took some thin aluminum stock and made up some ovals about 2" wide, drilled them for air passage and filled them with foam. I oiled them and then fitted them to the stock airbox carb rubbers. (Pics to follow). They seem to work fine.
As I ran the engine to test the pods I decided to check the R/r and found I was overcharging. Looking at the leads I noticed the sense wire was attached to the negative post of the battery rather than the positive. Switching that I got it down to about 14.5V at 3000 rpm so one more problem fixed.
I started fiddling with the tank and pulled off the tank sensor and petcock. Looking at the petcock I find it pooched as the inards fell apart when I opened it up so I guess I'll need to order one. I hope Z1 has some.
I need to sort out the forks next to get the wheels back on so with a bit of luck I'll get that done tomorrow.
If I can keep up the pace I might actually get some road testing in sooner rather than later. I guess we'll see.
More to follow.
cheers,
