Mate that's awesome you got her out for a short run! There's nothing quite like that first ride (no matter how short) to give you that boost to get her finished

Running down the breather pipe into the air-box?

Not sure.....haven't had time to further investigate.....pulled the filter out found it saturated at the bottom end with an oily substance and then it was time to go back in the house...

In the filter itself or the airbox?

The filter itself needs to be oiled so that's normal and as Daniel says the airbox can get blow by from the valve cover breather (by design).

it could be normal...but the bottom end of the filter is soaked with an oily substance enough that if you press slightly it runs off on your finger....

I'm gonna be changing the fork oil and the manual says to use a mix of 10w30 engine oil and A.T.F......if i use just the motor oil would it make the suspension stiffer.....any thoughts??????

Just use regular fork oil - most use 15w.

The manuals are based on the old days before we have the stuff we do now.

Sounds like the filter's simply been over-oiled. It should be damp with oil but not run off like that when you squeeze it.

+1, put 15w fork oil in with the Ikon progressive fork springs and I'm lovin' them so far. Finally put a few good km's in on them today and they soak up the bumps well and keep it under control when things get a little squirrelly.

Well upon further inspection the breather hose to the airbox is dry...no oil in there....the bike did sit a few months so I'm guessing all the oil in the filter ran to the bottom.....took everything off the tank.....emblems,petcock,gas cap cover....etc etc....am taking it to work and having my coworkers dad sandblast it for me........

Edit: also ordered exhaust gaskets, a petcock rebuild kit, and some J.I.S screwdrivers........

If it was over-oiled a bit then sat then that would make sense.

Just squeeze it out a bit and work the remaining oil around evenly and it should be good to go.

It should be damp enough to catch dirt and crap without dripping like it is at the moment.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with the tank...

for the tank i plan on filling in the decal area with body putty to give it a smooth look...then coating it with a light colored paint in the "hammered" or "textured" look then coating that with something close to an electric blue color....with the hopes that the hammered look will show up in the final product......i cant get the blue in that look so im gonna try this......then the gas cap lid will be black also with the hammered look....the side panels and tail section will be the same blue color......

That sounds good, I hope the hammered finish works for you! In theory it should if your blue coats are light enough...
