they are not vacuum lines, my mistake, but I did put what the guy found out them to be.

After that I disassembled the left carb, much like the right one there was no clogging of the jets, just some varnish on certain parts, however I will complete a thorough cleaning as with the right carb. Also with the help of some people on CafeRacer.net (specifically Hillsy on the forum there) I learned that the mystery hose connections were breather ports for the carb bowls and that they just needed to have new hose put on and routed down by the swingarm where the float bowl overflow tubes go to.

So today I set to work replacing the front brakes.....the screw holding the outer pad was stripped.....

So I got out one of my favorite tools....an E.Z. out that actually works

Then i tore the petcock apart to clean and rebuild it.....

Then I drained the oil and that was all for today.......

Nice! Hopefully I'm beyond the point of needing one now but I'll keep it in mind if I do...

With a custom exhaust system do you always have to change the jetting or not......I found one of these...http://www.oldbikebarn.com/GS400-450...category=79010 on eBay.....but don't want to have to change the jetting.......

My main question is would I have to change the jetting with that exhaust......

Was going to add that yes you will need to rejet.Think the rule of thumb is 2 up main and 1 on the pilot.

Ok thank you very much......I don't really know anything about jetting and such....so just bear with me......there is custom pipes on the bike now....original headers but custom pipes......they do have baffles in......do you think I need to change the jets......

                            Comment

The answer really depends on how well the pipe flows.

If you have the original air box with a correctly oiled air filter and an after market exhaust that replicates the stock exhaust's flow, then you probably won't need to rejet.

If the after market exhaust is freer flowing than stock, then yes rejetting is necessary.

There are heaps of threads around on plug chops as well as info on BassCliff's page and I also find www.motorcyclecarbs.com pretty useful for tips too.

I don't think you'll need to touch your pilots as I'm running stock ones in mine with K&N's and a completely custom exhaust. I have yet to confirm that properly though as I haven't had time to do any tuning yet.
