They came out better than I expected for rattle can paint don't you think? Gonna try and get some paint on the rear wheel hub this weekend.

I'm still looking for a left hand turn signal switch that I broke the other day. If it had the choke control on the bottom that would be a bonus. If you have one, please let me know. Oh, and I also need a new chain guard. Mine was broken and zip tied together.

    Thanks guys!

      Hey SCI,

Just a reminder your post only said a few questions... I think you have passed the quota of a few....

Glad the paint turned out good, and the Mrs. was not home. I am a little baffled, because when I baked some stuff in the oven it did not smell up the house. Now granted mine has sky lights that open and the sliding glass door and kitchen window were open because it was summer. Okay so I was well ventilated. Guess I should not try this during the winter.

Yeah, I suppose I have reached my quote limit Doh! I guess it was easier to just keep this thread than start a new one.

I'm so slow compared to all you guys but I did manage to get some little things done. First up was to get the rear hub sanded and painted. It came out real nice.

Then I officially started the assembly by putting on the rear swingarm and the front triple tree's. Still so much to do though...

I am now working on getting the airbox, lower front suspension legs and kickstand cleaned up for painting. The airbox has been a hassle. Lots of caked on grease and lots of rust and pitting. Have thought about even replacing it. I have it soaking on pine-sol tonight. We'll see how she come's out and then decide.

          Coming along nicely there Sci.....

Don't think of it as a race, do what you can when you can, if you rush it, you will make mistakes cut corners and it will come back to bite you in the behind....

I am at a stall right now, paint drying on the calipers, looking for the SS bolts, and getting off the cold I picked up, so nothing has been done for about 3-4 days now, but there is always tomorrow......

Don't listen to GK. It is a race! I will beat you all!

actually no.. I will probably finish my bike last but meh...

It isn't about speed ... it's about a bike that you will be proud of.

Frame looks sharp, keep up the work, it really starts to hit home when you put the wheels on the frame then the outline of the bike starts to show. Its a great point in the rebuild.

Sci, that is simply stunning, I love the way the bits came out, good work there, and keep it up, she is going to be a looker for sure.

Phaaa, you bunch of clowns have got a mighty long way to go before you fall behind me with your builds, I will be lucky if they still make gas for mine by the time it is finished....better start hoarding the stuff.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I'm not the only "slow boat to china" as my pop always said haha. With the boys' sports schedule now down to one son, I should have a little more free time.

Soaked the airbox in Pinesol last night. That stuff is amazing. It got probably 90% of all those years worth of gunk and grime off. It was not able to get the deep rust out though. I need to find someone with a soda blaster to finish it off before paint. Once I'm done with that, I will get to work on the wheels. As Redneck said, the rolling chasis seems like a nice defining moment in a build.

I see a grown man sitting on rolling chassis making vrooooom vroooom noises, grinning like a Cheshire cat in the not too distant future....hahahahaha.

I am told, this is what you are supposed to do... I wouldn't know

Ok, four whole days since my last post. Man I'm slow...I gotta get busy. The first MX open practice at the track is March 3rd! Once moto season starts it will be really tough getting stuff done on the street bike. Anyway, I managed to strip the rotors (twice as they had been painted over with black - factory was red/orange) and got the kickstand and airbox done finally. That airbox took the most time just trying to get it clean enough for paint to stick. I scrubbed, wire wheeled and finally pine-soled the heck out of it. Came out nice but as you can see in the pic's, it has suffered a hard life and has lots of pitting in her. Let's see if we can get another decade out of it shall we?

                          Airbox before...

                          And after...

On to the the fork legs next. Trying to get to a rolling chassis asap.

Finally got the rotors painted. I think it's a pretty close match to the original. Slowly but surely she's coming together. Enjoying Supercross tonight with my boys. Will make for a nice evening distraction.

Thanks Daniel. Yeah, I'm quite pleased with the airbox. I was just admiring it this morning haha. But it took a lot of work to get it in shape enough to hold paint. Wish I had access to some metal forming/bending tools like we had in high school. I would have just made a new one. I think it would have been less work!
