    GS 850 Tanks / compatibility

Hi - Can anyone confirm that a 1979 GS 850G tank fits a 1981 GS 850G.They look the same shape with a single bolt at the back. Are there any significant differences with gas hook up / electrics underneath?
Is it frowned upon in the world of genuine restorations to put a 79 on an 81.
The available 79 is in nice condition.
    Regards Pete in melbourne Australia.

Your mate Johno already posted on your behalf, see here

But now that you are here, how about you introduce yourself, and tell us a bit about you and the bike, oh yes and a few pics, we like pics....of the bike, not you.

      Tanks for the reply

      Hi Flyboy,
Nice Santa suit.I'm a new member to GS resources (day or so) - still working out how to get around the site.Looks like a big pool of info from GS nuts worldwide.I'm a site manager and live on the coast about an hour and a half outside Melbourne Australia.Purchased a nice clean 81 GS850G few months back.Re-done the forks, clutch, rotors, calipers, braided lines on the front, new bearings all round and quite a few other bits and pieces. The bikes done 73ks and has had the top end done.Nice dry motor.Only thing un - original 4 into 1 pipe.Heavier beast to what I'm used to but already well hooked.Other bikes 83 Yamaha tenere and XT550 enduros.
Maybe later when I work out how I'll put in some pics of the new beast.
      Regards Peter

Pete, the way to do it, is to upload the pics to your photobucket account and then link from there by coping and pasting the img code from the pic into your post.
Other Pete is up near Brizzzy, he should be along shortly, as should Basscliff to give you his world famous mega welcome, packed full of GS information.
