I'm trying to decide where my inaugural ride is going to be?! I mean, it can't just be to the office or the quick mart. It needs to be something video worthy at least. And not too far in case I break down. Now there's confidence in the build!

That's funny Good Times. I say that you shouldn't ride it at all. It's too nice now. I have been following this rebuild along with a few others. There are some really superb projects/rebuilds going on around here (yours included of course). Great work and patience with this. I imagine the temptation to skip a few of the non-essential details just to ride it sooner but you have resisted that and taken your time with every little thing. That's awesome. Have a great first ride and a good time.

It looks like GK is almost done. I think I'll go bug him now.
He's been worrying about minor things like tires and chains now. Gee whiz

Thanks Missle! Patience has been key to this build. There have been a few time where I've thought, "Well, that doesn't really matter" but then I just can't go forward without it being right.

GK and I have been running parallel tracks on the builds but he has pulled ahead here at the end. His bike looks and I'm sure will also run great.

My build will be off for the next week and a half and has been for a about a week and a half prior to this post. It will be back on after we get back from vacation.

Can't wait to get back to it though!

mine is at a stop now as well tins are going to the painter, and that will cost me 10 days at least.....but once they are back, I am ready to go, minus the decals of course but I will put an order in for those as well, no big deal if they are over the clear coat it would have been nice to have them under it, but I am not about to wait another 3-4 weeks, riding season is almost half gone already here....

Man! I didn't even think about polishing the chain tensioner. I did polish my breather cover though. So I have that.

Can you even see the polished breather cover? No criticism, it just seems like a lot of work for a piece no one really sees. Maybe it's more visible on a 850? Or it's it just a case of, 'because I can.' That's cool too, just curious.

Marc, there is a sickness that comes over some of us when we get close to the polishing wheel. You are correct. You cannot see the breather cover once the tank is on. But when I had that part off and was getting it cleaned up I thought, "I bet I could put that on the wheel and it would look awesome." Thus the sickness.

I don't think anyone has it as bad as Steve though. He polishes internal motor parts.

I think we should form a support group for him.

Some have good results with a matte or satin finish on their bikes. JimmyR's is a great example of that. Great looking bike.

I decided that the more shine the better on mine though. Everything from high gloss powdercoat on the frame to a polished breather cover, front wheel speed sensor, etc.

What is the saying? "Shiny pipes save lives." Something like that..... LOL

GK definitely has the sickness as well. His bike looks really good.

Heck we all need a support group.

I love the shiny bits, but only in moderation... I hate it when it rains though... my case covers, pipes, footpeg brackets etc. all need a good clean and polish now and the rain is easing tomorrow but back next week

Jus' piddlin today

So I decided to work on the gauges a little while I'm in a holding pattern with brakes and carbs.

I've decided to go with a dynojet stage 3 kit for the carbs and my local bike shop has the best deal on one. I'll order that on Monday.

So back to the gauges:

Replaced the burned out 5th gear indicator and will need to pick up some bulbs for the gauges as well. Some are blown.



This is when I discovered that I have misplaced my new rear cover for the center gauges. Dang it. I'll be pulling the garage apart looking for that one. The search is on......
