Sounds like she is gonna look really good.....

Before the season ends, I will have to go and take a few pictures of the bike, she is starting to get a bit dirty, so a good wash and polish, a few pics, and wrap her up for some wrenching over the cold......

We purchased a new house, and it has a nice big garage, more room to work in, I am looking forward to it.....

And I have that Harley to polish up as well.....

Going to be a busy winter....

New house, bigger garage. Sounds like you've got your priorities straight GK!

Glad to hear you have something to do over the winter. We moved here from Florida and my first the first winter was WAY cold, even for this region. I thought I was going to go crazy. Had cabin fever bad. I've learned to take on hobbies during the winter.

      Ok, today's report:

The bracket I used to mount the phone case was too thin and was vibrating too much for my liking. Needed something more substantial.

Came up with this. Took some channel and got to work with my dremmel, drill and grinder. A little paint and this was the result:

I made some cuts so I could closer match the angle of the gauges. I also cut slots in it for a zip tie to go through and secure the case to the bracket.

Here it is with 3M tape and a zip tie ready for the case.

      And with the case mounted:

      And on the bike:

This bracket will work much mo better. Looks almost like it belongs on the bike.

Good stuff GT! Been a bit slack following your thread lately but she's looking good! That paint should be nice too...

        Love the phone holder too!

As for the screen, try making it a bit more vertical.

First test run with my home made fly screen had too much buffeting, angled it more vertically and the difference was amazing.

Thanks Pete. Hey I really like the Cucciolo thread!

It seemed like I was talking to myself there for a little while. Thought all my rowdy friends had settled down.

I went for a ride this afternoon and then just walked in the door from doing a grocery run. I feel like a kid who just got his license. "Hey, I'll go!" every time we need something.

The windshield make the biggest difference. Have to have one with the L buckhorn bars. My thought today while riding was, "Wow, this is a joy!" There is some minor buffeting. I'll raise it up a little though and see what that does.

The phone holder works great. Lovin that. If my bike weren't so loud with the V&H I'd devise an inexpensive bluetooth for my helmet. But I don't think it'd be worth the effort. Plus I'm not sure I need the distraction!

Mate I know exactly how you feel! I'm always wondering what I can do that involves taking her out for a spin... hahahha

Glad you're liking the Cucciolo thread too, hopefully I can get moving on it again soon!

Oh, and no don't do the bluetooth thing, leave the phone just as a speedo/GPS, there're enough idiots on the road trying to kill us without committing suicide via distraction

Took a trip down the freeway today. About a 45 minute ride each way.

Speedo died. Again. This is the third speedo cable I've had break in a year. Half of that year being spent in the rebuild.

I wonder what's going on. I've got it cable mounted and run correctly. Could it be the speedo itself causing the cable to break?

Don't know. Glad I have my phone mounted to make up for it right now.

I went through two speedo cables on mine before the rebuild but I ditched my stock speedo after the rebuild so not sure if the problem persisted or not...

One thing I did notice was how gunged up the speedo drive was so that good a good clean out and lube.

Now of course I run the Acewell so no cables to worry about...

The more I think about it the more I think it's the speedo itself. It reads slow and started getting noisy right before it went. I'm thinking that something is dragging in the clock and causing the cable to eventually fail.

I'll have to crack that gauge open to get it right. That won't happen today.

So I've enjoyed riding and have settled in with the bike after the rebuild. Love having the bike running right. Paint will come later.

So yesterday the weather was warm and I decided I would ride thinking it would be the last day for the winter. Loved the ride to work and back.

As I pulled in the drive I stopped while opening the garage door. Noticed my right mirror needed adjusting. Strange. I reached over and the mirror fell off in my hand when I touched it. Great. New mirrors. No biggie.

I put the bike on the side stand and got off to inspect the mirror some more. My curiosity satisfied, I got back on the bike started it and pulled it into the garage, with the stand still down mind you. Stopped the bike. Turn it off and set it down in the side stand with confidence. I didn't know that the side stand caught on the discharge cover of my mower when I pulled in the garage and was now up.

Now I need a new windshield as well. Luckily nothing else was damaged, other than my pride.

It's raining here today so I can't ride yet. that will be the true test. I like the Spitfire. The idea is to have it knock some of the wind off first and second to match the lines of the bike.

I'll try this out configuration out first:

Beautiful bike! I'm new here and just picked up a 1982 GS750TZ. Seeing the transformation was amazing! I actually went through every page, mostly looking at pitures and reading a little bit. Thanks for sharing your story.

Me too GK! Had to laugh at myself a little. Time to pay the stupid tax.

Did you get your idle issues sorted?

Bugger GT! I get so paranoid about the stands being down properly these days... I've had similar issues in the past with no damage thankfully.

Then today after picking the 450 up after 3 weeks without it, I stop in the city to pick something up and try to ride off with the disc lock still on the front disc... thankfully I only rolled forward enough to bump it against the caliper and wasn't actually accelerating...
