Thanks lovmac. I would recommend a project bike. I'm enjoying going through mine, even though it's taking longer than I expected. I find a lot of satisfaction with each step accomplished.

I didn't document the wheel process as well as some others. If I had to do it again I would probably polish them, clean them, scuff the paint, mask and paint them. I thought about taking them down to metal and clear coating them, but decided to paint them black instead. They look good now, but I'm glad to be moving on to something else.

Glad to share. Looking forward to seeing your project thread sometime soon.

      Beaver down

Ok, so I decided to tackle the Eastern Beaver PC-8 fuse block and relay kit today.

      I started here:

Tried this and had that sinking feeling that it was not right.:

Posted up in the electrical forum and got some good responses. After a conversation with Steve and some additional pictures emailed I had her hooked up.

      Soldered the wires:

Right wires trimmed, put in the right places and tightened down. Have to pick up another 10 amp fuse:

      Wound up with this:

On to the rest of the wiring harness now. Hope to get that out of the way soon.

Played with the arrangement of the new PC-8 and relay kit. Finally decided on placement and started tapping some new holes:

Everything went on the panel perfectly and looks real tidy:

        And there you have it:

Got the lectrics on the run...

Writing from the man cave where the smell of soldier and the sound of The Cars still linger in the air. Worked on the wiring harness today and finally have most of it licked. Just need to pick up one more connector and order about 2 feet of wire from Road Island Wiring Service. www.riwiring.com They are the go to guys for stock color wiring by the foot. Plus they have some really cool options for custom wiring. How about some cloth covered plug wires for that old school bobber. They've got it and a lot more. Ok, enough of the commercial....

This is NOT right......burned connector.....wonder why?

Because a PO wired the stator loop into the running light circuit...in case you are wondering, the orange/red and grey wire on the left should be jumped together on right side of the connector. Oops. that didn't work. No wonder my running lights weren't working and my stator connectors were fried.

              There....that's better....

This is how it should look...

Just have to replace this 10 inch section of wire, replace a couple of connectors and then wrap the harness/loom back up.

Cleaned the starter switch while I was at it as well. It's good to be back at it.

              Onward.

Can't say enough good stuff about these guys. Ordered my wire and some tape on Tuesday 10 minutes before they closed. They sent it UPS yesterday and I just got it on my door step. Impressive.

Going to fix the wire and add a couple of extra circuits to the harness for future use and wrap that puppy up.

Finished up the wiring harness today. Wheww..... that took a while to go through and fix. I also added three more circuits grounds to the harness for future accessories. That will match the number of available slots in the new PC-8 fuseblock and I won't have any exposed wire outside the harness.

Here she is all wrapped up with some long wires still left to cut when I get the harness situated in the frame.

I've been working on getting it in the frame and wired up this evening. Pictures to follow after I get 'er dun tomorrow.....

You're in good company. When I started this my friends would ask, "What are you working on now?". That has turned into, "How much longer?" or "Man, you just should have bought a new bike."

I just got to the point where I decided to be more about learning as much as I can about the bike and getting it done "right." I tend to get lost in the minutia from time to time. But that's what I enjoy about the build. The final product will come and I will be happy with it when it does.

But I do miss riding. That balances me a bit.

                        More pics later.

Just a second......crap.....I thought I was building a go cart. It's been so long I forgot it was actually a motorcycle.

Harness in, worked on more wiring. Got the rear end mostly on. Clear coated the inside of both fenders after cleaning and removing rust. Shored up the wiring on the "new-used" tail light. I have the bracket soaking in some vinegar to de-rust.

Polished the lower legs, and a bunch of other little parts. Put the front end and front tire on. Handle bars on.

Will clean up the coils, install them and start on the brakes soon. New pads, lines, and paint the calipers.

                          She's coming together.

She's getting a little closer. One full day working on the bike made a big difference. Getting the wiring harness finished up helped as well. Carbs will be the next big thing, but with the tutorial, it should be a snap right? Ha!

I like the way it's coming together so far. I'll have a Z1 order to call in before too long.
