Excellent job you are doing there sir and kudos on the pictoral record. Very entertaining. I'm not sure about your membership in this esteemed group,however, you're letting down the team somewhat since your man cave is just too clean, tidy and orderly.A little anal are we?

I wish mine was like that but everytime I try and tidy up, someone ( as in grown son who won't leave home.....well he did leave home then came back ) messes it up again. Right now there is nothing getting rebuilt this season as there is just no room to manouver.

Well keep up the good work. With your project and Mr. Gatekeeper's, Mr. Svsooke's, Mr. Pete's and a few others I think I can live vicariously until spring.

Anyone know how to remove the swingarm bearings? I can easily remove the inner part but the outer part and rollers stay there.

Just went through this process. If you don't have access to a press, then follow my thread here. Oh, and bring along some patience...

I used a long shanked flat head screw driver and a hammer and knocked out one side. Dropped the spacers out and then knocked out the other side. I put the swing arm in a vice wrapped in shop rags so I did not damage the paint job and bam. One of the bearings came out whole the other one blew to pieces then it took a little more knocking to get the remaining bearing casing out. Hope that helps.

I am bit anal about keeping the garage tidy. I hate to work in a mess. I was dusting my toolboxes and welders one day when the wife walked in and asked me when was the last time I dusted in the house (never).

It really has gotten pretty nasty out there sometimes when I am in the middle of a big project but I always try to clean it up before going into the house at the end of the night.
It's always nice to walk into a clean area the next day to start again.

I think every nut and bolt on this bike seems to have 33 years worth of rust or grease on them.


I didn't know that the head tube bearings were just loose.
I found that out when the dry ones on the bottom fell out.


The top ones looked good and had clean grease on them.


Gotta rebuild the forks yet.

That Snap on tool box built into the work bench is actually a beer fridge I made to look like a tool box.

I like beer, but not so much in the winter, more during the summer, but generally I like my Crown Royal, goes good anytime, even when wrenching in the cool garage during the winter months....and a nice cigar at the end of the evening....

It gets knocked down this spring and will be replaced with a 3 car.
Maybe then I might be able to park my truck inside.

Haha. I actually considered painting them both green to match the rest. What can I say. I like the old industrial green look.
Besides, It matches the green of the furnace that was there when I moved in.
The wife won't let me paint the inside of the house flat hospital green though. She's kinda funny that way...

When I'm in the house I'm a vodka guy... not so much for the rye but a nice bourbon now and then is good.

To be honest, My garage wasn't that organized until I started hanging out on a forum called the garagejournal.

I had too much stuff to do today so I didn't get to spend much time on the bike but in keeping with my plan on doing at least something everyday I did this.

I also decided to check out the carbs.
I was shocked at how clean the internals are even though the exteriors are filthy.



I stopped at Canadian tire today to get some stuff for the house and decided, what the heck! I need another grinder (I hate changing disks mid job) and they were on sale for $20 again.

If I buy any more I will have to make a new rack to hold them.


Tomorrow I am going to start on the wheels or the frame.
I really just need to pull the trigger and start cutting off tabs on the frame so I can get it coated.
