I actually shaved a bit off my crankcase using Helical gears. The clutch hub seperated that much from the crank. That was with the 1168.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

The old cushion was so old it felt like plastic Should help with some of the rattling noise I was hearing.
I always set my pics at 1300, maybe I should go to 1000. Our camera is a 12mp or so seems a shame to shrink too much.Last edited by Guest; 01-17-2012, 12:51 AM.

Looking good (including the photos)!
Those pistons are pure engine porn. Beautiful!
You thought about doing the starter switch mod (or what ever they call it) to save your starter clutch? Big engines w/high compression are really hard on the clutch. The engine can make a horrible clack noise when the starter clutch gets jammed during cranking.
Good luckEd

One of my 1100's is starting to do just that when it is cold.
It sounds TERRIBLE.
It has taken over 70,000 miles for it to occur.

Now you have one-hundred CCs on me darn it.
My bike runs hot already. Got it running tonight. LOTS of jump, it was rainy and wet/cold so I had to take it fairly easy, nothing over 1/2 throttle.
Had to jump it from the truck. Not enough juice in the battery to turn it over. Kicks back now and then, wired in an igniton kill to thelp with that. Went for a 1/2 hour ride and still not enough to flip it over. Had the starter apart, cleaned the comm and brushes, greased the bearings.
Anyone know of a HD battery brand/ model for these? The current battery isnt that old.

Maybe you need a Super squirrel... Paul Cashio takes a mitsuba 229 starter (look for counter sunk phillips screws in the middle of the starter holding the fields in. three of them.) and rebuilds it for more power. Even designed to handle 24v. Cell 1-504-458-5237 or at cashio cycles 1-504-393-2260. pcashio@cox.net

I am thinking of upgrading my starter and ground wires to 6 gauge first
Should be better when it is broken in more, but then the rings will seal better
