A couple months back I decided I needed a winter project so I picked up a neglected 1982 GS650G that had not moved in almost 15 years. This is my first rebuild or restoration and I was super happy to find this community and BassCliffs site! I have found tons of useful info on both.
The bike was pretty complete and I have decided to keep it as original as possible. The only bits I have had to replace are the shocks and front master cylinder.
First I wanted to make sure it ran so I rebuilt the carbs, adjusted the valves, replaced most of the gaskets on the engine, changed the oil, and installed a battery. It fired right up and sounds pretty good. I am happy with it so far!
Right now I have it torn apart for cleaning and rebuilding the forks and brakes. Once everything is cleaned up I will begin reassembly.
Unfortunately, the bike has a lot of over spray from some painting project the PO did. It is cleaning up pretty good with a clay bar though. There is a fair bit of surface rust but nothing too serious.

My other bikes include a 2007 Yamaha FJR1300, a 2009 Kawasaki KLR650, and a 2000 Ural Tourist. The GS will mostly be used as a starter bike for my lovely and understanding girlfriend, but I look forward to running it around some too.
Thanks everyone!
