I get my plating done at Victoria Plating. Well I put the PlastiKote on. Went on very well but the end result is far too bright. Not a chrome finish but a very bright aluminum. It will bug the heck out of me if I don't change it....arrrrr.Rob

Here's some pics
Rims, changed my mind and went with a more stock colour wheel paint
I'm happy with the results
This is the 'too shinny' block. Happy with the product but not won over by the brightness. I can order VHT universal aluminum from the states but I have no clue if it will go over top this PlastiKote or not. Figure I'll see what happens, 3rd time lucky right?

I think over time the Plasti-Kote seems to dull down a bit.Could just be that I'm used to it though.

Repainted the engine...3rd time lucky I think. Went with VHF flame proof aluminum. Went over top the Plasti Kote fine and looks a lot better. Much closer to stock colour that's for sure.
I'll give it a few days and then drop the frame over it and bolt them together. Rims are painted and ready for tires, forks are all cleaned and put together with new seals. Instead of putting in new Progressive springs like I usually do I've been wanting to try out the 'cut your springs 3" mod" so they're all done just need to find the correct PVC piping and they're done. I'm curious to see the improvement. I can always put progressive in later. Guess I can put in the steering head bearings while I'm at it.Rob

Great thread I have gone completely through my 82 850G over the last two years. It is totally roadworthy. Spent 1000 miles on her last weekend. Can't seem to put the bike down now that she runs so well and is a great sport tourer. These bikes thank you when they are maintained properly. Looks Great

Well finally got around to putting the engine in the frame. Used the co-pilots old Yoga mat that she was going to throw out last spring, me being the ultimate recycler that I am.....
Worked fantastically.
Couldn't remember which side was to go down but figured I'd deal with things as they came.
Dropped over like butter and everything lined up perfectly. I don't remember things going this easy the last time I did this but today was a good day.
Everything worked out great and not a scratch on the frame. Things are starting to look better.
The only problem is I have no idea where I'm going to put this bike when she's all back together So on that note I put all the bikes back in and called it a night.

Slowly getting things done. Modified the stock springs, cut them a bit and added a longer PVC spacer. Felt a bit stiff actually once I filled them with 15W fork oil but we'll see once she's on the road. Ready to put the carbs on but found that Boulevard Suzuki sent me the wrong right side intake boots so have some others on order. Harness is already to go back in as is a new Dyna ignition and coils, sweet.
Stripped all the clear coat from the shinny parts now I've just got to hit the buffing wheel for a day, love things that make work easier....
All very exciting stuff.Rob

As usual very slowly getting there. This should be a motivator to keep at it.
Turns out I need to order a new handle bar as I don't have a decent one. I'm going to bench test my stators and see if there's a good one in the pile somewhere. I had to use by good Ricks on the 78' last spring. Dyna ignition and coils along with on of the last Reg/Rec's from 'duaneage'. My Shinko 230's are in from MCsuperstore so she' should be rolling by next week.
Sure was glad to see those lights come onRob

Slowly plugging away at things but managed to get a number of things on in the last bit.
I think I'm learning I don't like polishing case covers all that much, not one that were as bad as these anyways. I sure hope that new clear coat works because I really don't want to do any of this over again. Getting the front wheel one was a very large 'Gong Show', I really wish I had video taped the whole event but it's probably better of forgotten.
The starters turning everything over which is nice but the clutch is not working at all. As usual don't have a clue what I did and I'm sure I'll be posting in the technical thread, I didn't go into the clutch basket just took the cover off so I'm hoping it's not too complicated of a fix.
I remember seeing this little reminder in another thread somewhere and thought "well that's dang smart", glad I did it too as I almost turned things over a couple of times and had to add the 'filter' to it as well as I kept forgetting that as well . It's been a long time since the old girl has rolled around. Have some more days off starting at the end of the week so hopefully I can sort out the clutch issue and then figure out an exhaust to put on her. The 1000G pipes were toast, at least the right side was but I've got some 79 1000 pipes I'm hoping I can 'mod' to fit with out it looking to ridiculous. Felt good to have her rolling today that's for sure but I've still got lots to do.Rob

Great work! She is looking good. I love the engine color, wish mine looked that good. Can't wait to see the finished product. What color are you going with?

For now I'm just polishing up the repainted body work she came with, a metallic brownish/maroon colour or sorts, not my favorite but it should suffice for now.Rob
