Wow Rob, the bike is coming along nicely. I wish you had video of the "front wheel incident" too.

Hmm, could it be you have so many parts lying about that you're inadvertently making this a single disc bike?

        What do I win?

        A set of K&Ns?

Ouch! Unfortunately you spelled nincompoop correctly! The good news is - I know you have the technology to correct it!

Yup, never done 'that' one before. I swear I'm the one that should be given a prize of some sort. I can't count how many times I've put something together to only take it apart and do it again due to something like this. Oh well, like I always say, "it gets easier the more times you do it"

Hey for you that are following this rebuild and have helped along the way, I'm having 'issues'...Rather than double post here's a thread I started in the engine section. Hopefully I can sort this all out.

Place your 4 cylinder GS engine, drivetrain or clutch related questions in this forum.

Well unfortunately while attempting to take off the cam journal bolts because my cam timing was not correct, another cam bolt snapped off in the head. So back to square one. At least I already know the shop in town that can do it.

                      Rob,

Be sure to post up what you think happened on your bike. I think I need to replace the base and head gasket on my 650 and it would be good for me to understand what could happen.

                        Finally

Well after sitting derelict in the back of a garage for who knows how long and over two long years in my shed in pieces being brought back to life, low and behold......

                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rak...e_gdata_player

She won't idle without the choke and gas started pouring out of the carbs and air box, but she starts easily enough. I spent a few more hours sorting out the 79 1000C exhaust to make it fit, which it doesn't very well but it'll work till I find something better. I'm hoping the stalling issue will be rectified with a synch, I'll see tomorrow I hope.

Well she's officially back on the road Still a few things to do, signals, better brake lines (talk about spongy front brakes), better handle bar, better mirrors ect...and then there will be the fine tuning over the next few weeks but it sure feels good to have the major amount of work done, and it sure feels nice riding a shaft again, I forgot how smooth they are to ride.

The exhaust 'fit's' but not that well. Both the centre stand and the kick stand don't go all the way up and the rear brake pedal will hit the muffler if I stand on it (but since I don't do that it should be fine, although I did have to take the heat shield off). So if anyone has a 1000G system they want to sell let me know. I'll have to colour one of the decals so they match too, not a big fan of the gold so I think I know which one it's going to be. The #1 cylinder sure sounded like it had a good knock after a quick rip down the road but after I took it out for a second run and managed to get it up and down to 6-7 grand it sounds a lot better. I'm really hoping the bike will just run better and better as I ride it. I've read about seating the new rings by running her at high RPM's, I'm just not sure how long you do that for, but what the heck, it'll give me a chance to try out the new Shinko's and the suspension, I wasn't sold on the 412's when I got them but I think they look decent on the G.

So the shed's pretty full once again.
