I know the L tank can go on a E frame with some modifications, so I would imagine the reverse would be true.
As Tom said it should be simply a matter of relocating the pins that hold the rubber mounts.
Best measure the width of the channel and frame on both to be sure though in case the E is a little narrower or something.
If I remember next time I'm in the garage I can measure mine for you as the tank is off at the moment while I replace the stator.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Mate, apologies, remembered I needed to measure it as I was putting the seat back on for the test ride after finishing up the stator replacement
However, I will endeavour to do some measuring tomorrow night if I get in the garage. Won't be as accurate as having the tank off but I should be able to get a reasonably good idea for you.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
