'80 1100ET to EX basket case project

Well, by placing a cracklist ad, I now have the GS models coming to me!
A couple of weeks ago, I placed an ad for '76-'86 GS models wanted in non-running condition preferably with titles.
This wreck was offered to me for $600.00

After getting the seller down to my pricing, it is now mine.
    And so the challenge begins!

The PO's never seem to get these right...

    Broken seat latch...

Pegs/mounts are all messed up and wrong...

Some of the messed up tail section and turn signal mounts (fender was hacked up)...

Can't seem to find any better foot-peg mounts so these will have to do for now...

After a little effort with a wire wheel on a die grinder...

Not pretty but, will have to do for now.

You've been rather quiet lately Daniel, nice to see you with something new again

I think my wife would kill me if I was to place such an ad, so I'll just have to watch the result of yours from afar

My Wife is cool with me bringing home all of the bikes that I desire.
It is the strange women that she has a problem with.

Got the rear wiring cleaned and sorted, sub-frame connected to fender, seat lock repaired/mounted,
threw on a seat, painted the turn signal brackets, mounted turn signals, tail piece and licence plate mount.
I think it is starting to look a little better.

Got the left side foot peg mount installed.

Modified the exhaust mounts to get it off of the swing-arm.
Hard to see the new found 1/2" of clearance in this pic as it is getting dark out.

Suspension mods tomorrow as well as straightening out the rear brake mount.

Another reason why it didn't have the correct mounts/pegs?

Actually placing the ad would be fine... the calls and extra bikes in the already full garage would be a problem

Hahaha yeah well... I don't think I'll go there

And yep, you've definitely got some improvements on the rusty hulk there too

Besides the picture with the rear tail off, you can see what the rear looked like when I started here.
The plastic fender was cut up to end at about the turn signals. Note the license plate mount.:

I think that he was going for the "fender-elliminator" look.

                        Straightened out the bent brake...

Got the right mount on with the wrong brake lever for now...

Gave it a quicky spray cleaner bath and it looks a wee bit better...

Tomorrow I will see about replacing this messed up turn signal...

Got the front forks re-built and the handlebar mount painted.
She is getting closer to being a bike again.

Going to look through the parts from Boulevard Suzuki and see if I can find the airbox to carb boots tomorrow also.
Apparently, I have 4 of these airboxes kicking around here so I guess that I will put one of them to use.
And, of course, the filter box with the hard to find lid.

Why is it that every time I buy an older bike the PO or one of the PO's have somehow done crazy stuff to the bike?
I have yet to have bought an older bike that didn't have some crazy stupid "mods" done to it.

Kinda keeps me honest in my build. No one that ever buys a bike that I ever worked on will think WTF?

they probably will. they'll probably decide that all the work makes too much sense and then hack it up and do something dumb......cos thats what retards do
