Nice work Wally! I like the starter cover, what paint is that?

I polished mine but being steel instead of alloy it has started developing some corrosion already and I'll need to do something about that before too much longer...

El-Cheap 'o High heat engine rattle can paint.

I just washed it really well, wet sanded with 400 grit and painted.
Will see how well it holds up when installed and running again.

Cool, might have to give that a go... although I just realised I still have more POR 15 Black Velvet high temp paint from doing my crankcases.

I probably should save some $$$ and use that... aside from the fact it's good stuff (if your prep work is good) it will also match the other painted bits...

After struggling for a few weeks to get the bike to fire up, I have now finally installed the choke lever.

I was convinced the battery is toast, despite what the battery shop said. It is hooked up to a battery tender 24/7, yet after 2 or 3 cranks it shows it is in charging mode and you hear the cranking getting weaker.

          Anyway...she fired up last night!!!!

And the tender shows maintenance mode!

I hope the weather holds up tomorrow so I can take her for a nice spin to see that everything is working the way it should.

Wooohooo!!! Congratulations!!! Gotta love that first start

Weather here is crap at the moment, raining most of the week, so fingers crossed you can get out...

Took her out for a quick spin yesterday and managed to get some water on the new paint when a quick burst caught me right before I got home.

Rode really nice! More importantly - no oil leaks from tensioner!

Can't wait for weather to clear up! Want to do few odds and ends still and give it a really good tune up - just to make sure everything is 100%!

Also would like to take some nice shots of the bike as soon as the weather clears.

The extra effort on the wheels paid off
nothing worse than rationalizing laziness and painting a pretty wheel a sold colour.

Love the bike Wally. Nice work for sure. Can't wait to see the next project.

Thanx guys! The wheels were a bit of a mission, but so worth it! Would have looked really bad keeping the old pitted wheels on there and new shiny paintwork and decals on top.

I have now officially joined the dumb-@ss brigade...

Loaded the GS onto a trailer yesterday to take to bike electrical shop this morning on my way to work.

After I got it onto the trailer I noticed this:

A nice big gash on the tank from my belt buckle!!!

I hope it can be fixed or otherwise it is a respray and new decals...

On the plus-side, it turns out the stator is fried.

Awww man that sucks Wally! Lucky my jacket covers my belt buckle...

The stator is a much easier fix

Might be, but not for me...haven't got a head for electrical stuff...I even struggled to fit a wall mounted fixture yesterday...

My jacket normally covers it as well, but I wasn't going ATGATT to load my bike...

Anyway, stator fixed! I can pick it up this afternoon.

Ah I see... well at least the stator's sorted now

When I messed up my tank paint when a piece peeled off with the masking tape, I was able to use a touch up gun to squirt just in that area.

However there was no clear on at that point so I'm not sure how relevant that will be...

Rather then re-paint, maybe an adhesive backed tank protector would cover the scratch.
