    Cylinder head reassembly

Hello, my name is Marc and I am new to the forum but I have spent numerous hours on the site. I own a 1982 GS1100E and have decided to do a rebuild since the head gasket blew. I have done a lot of research on where to buy things and get general advice plus I have the original service manual. I am a novice mechanic and do know there are things to be aware of and not just jump into things.

So my biggest issue is reassemblying the head. In a normal engine I would buy new head bolts and not reuse the previous ones doue to stretch issues. However, I cannot find a bolt set for sale and as I am sure most of you know, these aren't just standard bolts. So I do not know if they or their respective washers are meant to be reused. I also cannot find a cam journal bolt kit either.

    Any help or direction?

    Thanks a lot

They are head studs, not bolts, and I don't think they need to be replaced each time. They are not torque to yield or whatever the term is. The torque spec is not very high on these nuts either. I have not replaced them ever, don't even take them out of the cases, and none have ever failed that I know of.
