Looks good man. I am also thinking about painting the end of my exhaust. I was thinking black but now after I see the red you did I might paint it red. I have some red caliper paint I could use. Sucks about that clear coat though. That's why I use urethane paint.

Paid a visit to my local salvage shop yesterday. found a bunch of missing bolts, the proper front axle proper speedo cable and a chrome front fender. they only had a 81 gs850gl there so they didnt have any needed engine mounts or anything... but i think i have located those from members here.
I definetly need to dig into the petcock and fuel delivery. now it seems fuel is flowing extremely slowly and its burning whats in the bowls quicker than it gets replaced.
should have the airbox covers and rear end finished up tomorrow.
still waiting on front end parts and brake rebuild kits... stripping the tank and plastics tomorrow as well.
2 more weeks and i wanna ride it

Remember this....
Or this?
Well... now it's this!
Took a few hours... but I got a nice 'dull buff' on the lip, and then did about 3 coats of VHT engine paint in gold... Should hold up to road crap and chain lube just fine.
As you can tell... I got the side covers almost finished. Just have to do a few 'graphic' touches to them... and we'll see how they turn out.
Also got the controls 'mounted'... still need to drill holes for the little keepers in the bars.
SO much to do!

Don't waste time/effort drilling those holes in the bar.
They are simply locating pins for mass production use.
You don't need them at all.

^^ Really??? Even on the throttle side? The little screws will clamp the bar tight-enough to not let the throttle slip around?

10-4.
I just placed a Suzuki throttle on my 2008 Triumph today as a matter of fact.
No drill was involved at all.

Well that makes life amazing. I'll just have to bend that stupid tab out of the way inside the switch plates.
ALSO. I need to call you! When are you free?! Send me a PM/E-mail me.
I'm probably going to 'somehow' use the brakes you mailed me... but I don't need the foot pegs, ended up finding the one I was missing on e-bay that folds. The only 2 things I need are that headlight clip and the rear motor mount .

I hate it when the finish line is in sight and still miled away.
Next couple days-
-trouble shoot hot wires from stator
-finish forks
-drill and tap headstock stoppers so trees miss tank at lock
-start refurbing brakes
-strip gas tank
-painting
-drill out broken foot peg bolt
had to get a new fuse for my multimeter... forgot i had fried it last season.
I'm finally starting to get more frustrated than excited... I think its spending every spare minute on the bike and slight lack of sleep... haha. Maybe i shojld take a week off.

Looking very nice. Can't believe that's the same bike you started with. Sounds really good too!Last edited by Spyder; 04-26-2012, 09:30 PM.'83 GS 1100T
