I've decided to start a new project- re-painting my tank, tail piece, and side covers using Frank Perreault's method from the forum homepage as a rough guide. I'm using Duplicolor paint because it's what I could find at the store. Today I got 98% finished with stripping the tank and tail piece, finishing that up tomorrow. I'm getting pretty stoked to complete the process.

I think that filling it in will give the best results. With a dent like that it seems like I'd never be able to get it perfect. There are lots of smaller dings as well so I'll have a Bondo party.Originally posted by GateKeeper View PostComment

Try spraying a true two part urethane clear over it when you are done, it will resist fuel spills that way. It is available in a spray can now if you need that.

Swissvax also makes a wax that withstands fuel spills supposedly. I have not yet tested it but it will be applied when I'm finished with the tank.Comment

I have had very good luck with Duplicolor in the past and it seems to hold up well to gasoline.
DO NOT use the Duplicolor clear under any circumstances. It will strip with the slightest drop of gas.Comment

Hey guys thanks for all of the input.. I've been busy this week getting the project done. Gas spills is the one thing that I'm really a little freaked about. I'm going to keep a rag in the small storage area and use it when I fill up to make sure that no gas gets dripped on the tank. The urethane seal is a good idea... I should probably do that as well. Does it undergo the same sanding procedure?

where are they being hosted ? If you haven't set up a photobucket account, upload to there, and then use the img tag to post, have the pics loaded as 800x600 and you should be good to goComment
