Just incredible. really nice work, and a well executed build, be proud of that for sure.
Just one more ppoint on the chain guard....if it don't make it go faster, ya don't need it.

A few updates from today. I've always liked the look of Velocity Stacks as opposed to pod filters, I've read a few articles suggesting they may not run as well... but you know what, they look damn sexy!! We covered off the oil breater with a neat K&N jobbie tucked nicely towards the top NSF of the engine. Exhaust end can fitted too
In other news I sourced a handlebar switchgear refurb kit from eBay and fitted to the freshly painted switches, they look brandnew. The throttle linkage is run, timing set and all the electrics are working as they should. So, there was only one thing left to do.... connect up the fuel lines and FIRE HER UP!!!!
I'm amazed to report that she started on the button and idled unbelievably well considering we were using fairly basis carb settings lifted from forums such as this one. We started with the air screw 2 turns out and reduced to 1.5. She's running 120 jets, although not sure that make a differnence on tick over? She ran lovely for 5 mins until she ran out of petrol
Next jobs:
- Steering lock
- Clocks
- Lower headlamp by an inch or so
- Fit new stainless fork caps
- Investigate 'spongey' front end - new progressive front springs?
- Paint brake levels, run lines
- Start saving for calipers, disks.... nitrous, Ohlins rears?!

Are you going to change that rear brake pedal? Doesn't look like you can use it in that position, unless your ankle is double-jointed. Also, the linkage won't deliver much pressure to the brake without more of an angle.
I guess that will sort out when you put the rear brake on.

The bike is looking real nice. Anxious to see the final results. Are you going with a front fender and a rear subfender? The velocity stacks look great, but as I found with my 1000S, the carbs will probably need serious re-jetting for the engine to run at anything other then idle. Mine ran great at idle, even as you revved it, but under load, it fell flat on it's face. Nothing above 3,000 rpm. I'm sure it can be worked out, many have, I just didn't want to deal with it and went back to the stock airbox. Ran perfect right off the bat that way. Doesn't look nearly as cool, though.1979 GS1000S,

Beautiful work
I love the vapor blasting, I've been messing around with that lately
As far as your carb tuning goes, you mention only one of the screws
Fuel "underneath" should be about one turn out
Air "side" should be about 2 turns, then use the high idle method to fine tune1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Great job, it looks fantastic!
I like the stacks but not that open rear fender area, looks like a strait shot for water and crap right into your carbs. A well placed sheet metal panel behind the engine will keep the look nice and clean.

Your bike is amazing, I'm doing a bunch of work on my 550 and I hope it comes even 1/2 as nice as yours . What gauge steel did you use for the underseat pan?

Quick update, not been on here for a while.
Been pondering what to do re the steering lock issue (clip-ons hitting the tank). A few peeps mentioned various ideas including a threaded bolt on the original stop / frame - I'm sure many have made this work however I just couldn't see how this would be strong enough for my application. Dad and I started looking at the upper steering yoke and the possibility of a bracket to control movement using the inside tab which comes off the top of the headstock. After many hours messing about with cardboard templates we managed to cut the bracket from 3mm thick ally, and give it a nice polish up. 2 stainless allen bolts and bobs your uncle, steering lock problem sorted. The underside shot shows how the design works.
Next jobs on the list, front indicators, front/rear brake master cylinder re-furb, billet brake callipers (est March/April), number plate mounting, bar-end mirror, tuning etc etc.....
HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
