Where in Oregon are you? I am in Portland and would love to lend a hand and hopefully learn a few things. I have a GS450E that I am tearing down and restoring.

Glad to see you back! Bummer on the valves but at least you know what the problem is...

I feel the same way.. Also having a rebuilt top end is not really a bad thing LOL.. No more Mystery Repairs to deal with..

Yes this is true! I'm battling an intermittent issue with mine dropping back to 1 cylinder... no half measures here, I'm redoing all the coil and Dynatek connections... fingers crossed that's all it is!

Your pistons look similar to what mine were, both before and after

Underneath my case covers though and inside the crank cases was clean as, I was very surprised!

Nice job on the cylinders, but you are going to get them honed right?

                Waiting for Top End.......

While waiting for my rebuilt top end, including honed cylinders, I decided to tear her down and replace the tires and install the new screw set.

I got them for about 70 bucks apiece online.

I got a new toolbox as well

Also decided to spend some time making her shiny.. Used Copper Scotch Brite and Degreaser.

                Not too shabby!!

Top End Complete and She lives once more!!!

The top end rebuild has been completed and after hours of work she is running once again..

We assembled the top end according to the manual.

Once complete I checked the valves with my new ultra rare valve shim tool.

I am ready to roll. I do a quick compression test and I get 135 from the left and 150 from the right.

I decide to go for broke and install the carbs, exhaust and gas tank.

Scarlett must appreciate all her shiny new parts and the attention I have lavished upon her as she tries to fire on the first push of the button. Make some small adjustments and she fires right up.

The angel siren song of her throaty growl fills my ears as she happily consumes oxygen and gas and beckons me to elope with her on the open freeway.

Soon my darling, once I have dressed you in all your finery, then and only then shall we have our dance!!!

Mate that's good stuff! Glad to see her coming back together again

Nice work with the scotch brite too, really brought that chrome up again!
