84gs550es project need someone to finish

    hello all,
I have a 84gs550 es that has been a never ending project for years now.
I am looking for a mechanic that can finish it for me. it has had a lot of work done to it already. and the hard part is mostly done. my brother was working on it for me. while he is a fantastic mechanic, he does not always finish what he starts
if i could get someone to finish it, it would be an awsome bike.
my brother installed a Dyna S ignition on the bike, that is the main thing that needs finished. the ignition is totally installed it just needs the timing set
it also has a DynoJet stage 1 kit installed
custom air intake to run pod filters on the siamese carbs
    it has a supertrap exhaust
all the ignition and power wires have been replaced
    new cam chain tensioner
    new dyna coils and wires
    new crank seal
i am sure i am forgetting some other things that have been done.
i also have a set of wheels and forks from an early gs500e
that i want to swap over to the 550.
and the carbs will probably need synced
so most of the work has been done it is just a matter of tuning it to run right and swapping over the forks and wheels wich i believe are a direct swap.
if anyone is interested please let me know, or if anyone knows of someone i could contact let me know.
i am in cincinnati ohio i could deliver the bike anywhere up to 4 hours or so away
    thanks, Aaron

You can't use a Dyna-S on your bike because there is no mechanical spark advance mechanism. Your bike came with a special ignitor that had an electronic spark advance curve built in. The Dyna 2000 has such a feature but I'm not sure if it will fit.

Also, you need a stage 3 Dynojet kit since the bike has both pods and a header.

Good luck and hope this helps.

you are right it was a dynojet stage 3 kit, that was an error on my part.
you can use a dyna s kit on my bike it has been done before, i have seen bikes on this site that have run them, i was a member here years ago, i guess i was deleated or something or cant remember what my username was. either way it has been done, you have to use a mechanical advance off of an earlier gs. it does work, that part is finished like i said. it just needs to be timed and tuned to run right.
      thanks for your input

I've been around here for a while now and have never seen a 550 like yours with a Dyna S. Can you please post up some photos and explain how you (or your brother) was able to add on the mechanical advance unit? There are a good many people around here that could benefit from this mod and how you guys pulled it off.

here is an old thread where someone said they installed a dyna s on a gs550es. unfortunatly the person who posted the information wasn't a regestered member so i can't contact him

there are several other old threads where people are talking about it.

See if prostock performance will work on it. They work on older bikes.

I'm not able to actually take on the project but I can help you with some things like general repairs and wiring. What else besides ignition is wrong with it?

i wouldn't say anything is "wrong" with it, it's just not finished. the ignition is installed, it runs, it will start up, but the timing isn't right. also it hasn't been ran on the road or tuned at all since the jet kit was installed. thats it mainly just need someone to get it to run right, i am completly confident that my brother did everything to it the right way, we are not talking about a botched job that will never run. he is just one of those people that never finishes anything. i am sure you all know people like that, or are one yourself

Like I said check with prostock. If all it needs is ignition timing and maybe tuning they should be able to hook you up.

That's good information. I'll remember for the next guy that is looking for an ignitor.
