as i said before keeping things organized is key to a sucessful build. once the cam chain tensioner was removed and the guide caps were removed it was simple to lift the cams out...

I started with the little bolts on the ends of the head first, then i attacked the middle nuts, then i went for the long corner nuts, I had to use a pickle grabber to get the washers off the studs my fingers were a bit to sausage like to reach them! then finally i removed the center nuts the front nut was more like a spacer and it has o-rings on it... im not sure why this was like that but im thinking that i will replace these old orings when i put it together to make sure its good. then i stacked my nuts and bolts the way they came out on my bench..

I thought at this point the head would come off freely... i took to the rubber mallet to find it was loose but not soming off....... this hidden bolt was the culprit. so you dont have to walk blind here is a picture of the little Bast#^D

after getting that last hidden bolt off the head just flopped off like it had springs under it!! one of the cam chain plastic guides comes out the other stays in, just lift it out off the head after you lift the head off the cylinder so you dont damage it when trying to set the head down.

head gasket comes off now... i always try to give it a look over to see any obvious problems like leakage and Etc.

I also like to check the top of the cylinders and the bottom of the head also. I normally would take a metal ruler or something witha good straight edge and roughly check for any warp-age. and at this point a quick visual inspection for cracks

looks like this has been running lean on one cylinder??!?!?! not the pretiest... i guess the valves might need a bit of cleaning up too! What is the best way to go about this? should i ditch the vlavles and get new ones or can you clean up the ones that are light colored?

well thats it for now.. I will update when its time to remove the cylinders.. should not be that far away yet.. I still need to get a gasket set new valve guides. pending further investigation on that cylinder that is running lean it may be a new head... I suspect a crack but not sure yet?

fixed the head!
with a little impatience and a small amount of ingenuity. I have fixed the exhaust bolt screw holes... In the end i cleaned the hell out of the head took it to the drill press opened up the hole, machined a bushing to be slightly. I mean slightly larger than the hole out of steel. soaked it in liquid nitrogen and pressed it in the hole. faced off the steel to a factory finish. drilled and tapped new holes! kinda a pain in the ass when heads are selling on ebay for 30 -40 bucks. but the shipping was too much and i didnt want to wait! hope it will work when the head heats up.
