    Yeah I did.

I still can't get the carbs to sync up though. I must have a vacuum leak somewhere

I switched the hoses and still got low vacuum on the right side so I know it't not the gauges.

I also got a T and put both lines on one cylinder and the gauges pulled down the same.

I triple checked all of my connections so I don't know where to go from here.

I'm wondering if I put the intake boots on upside down or something. I couldn't decide if there was an orientation of them or not, and I know the parts fiche lists different #'s for each side.

I adjusted the (new) sync screw until I got it run as good as I could. I held my hand at the end of each muffler and seemed to be the same flow on each side. I know that really doesn't tell me anything but turning the screw definitely made it run like crap one way and better the other.

I also threw the timing gun on there and idle was dead on the right side. Left seemed to be pretty darn close too. I brought it up to full advance and both cylinders looked pretty close to spot on.

I took it out for a couple short rides and it accelerates much better than it did before. Don't know if that is the timing, syncing or exhaust gaskets or some combination of the three.

I might be copping out on this one but I'm just going to ride it for now.

    Pics to follow later!

If you move the sync screw does the vacuum value change?

        Yeah but not by much.

How far in is your sync screw? Just want a rough idea of what I'm aiming for.

Maybe I'm just completely off with them.

          Some pics.

You can definitely tell where I didn't polish.

Haven't put the foot covers back on yet. Want to watch that hiheat paint dry.

Lookin' good Jake! Hope you find your leak out soon so you can get her dialed in nicely...

Thanks! I don't really know where to go from here. Hopefully my other thread will get me some places to start.

Switching the old picture up eh Pete?

The engine covers are nice and shiny, the black on the exhaust helps tone it down I like it

Not sure how far in the sync screw is.... you sure you are adjusting the right screw? Its the one in the middle with the 8mm lock nut.

                  Thanks!

Yeah, I know because I had to replace it. PO busted off one of the sides of it, I'm guessing by not loosening the lock nut or something.

My only guess is that I have a leaky intake boot or the oring didn't sit right.

I'm headed out to the garage now...

There is only one sync adjustment screw. Its in between the carbs right below the choke rod

Yeah, I know. I'm saying he busted one half of the slots on the screw off. You know how it is cut through the center to form the slot for the screw driver?

One half of that was busted off so it had to be turned with a pair of pliers. 8mm lock not and a little bitty screw. Pain in the ace to get to.

looking good. You might want to switch those hose clamps on the header wrap though. I had mine originally like that but I used a thin gage wire and wrapped it a frw times around where the hose clamps are. Then paint over it. Just my suggestion.

All I can suggest Jake is to go through all those boots, O rings, and clamps and make sure everything rubber is supple and sealed right...

And yeah, figured it was time for a slightly more up to date avatar and signature photo

I really need some good final shots though, just haven't had the time or if I have had the time she's been filthy... in fact she's in desperate need of a bath at the moment, hate having her all disgusting and filthy...

Yeah I know. I just dread taking off the carbs for the 100th time.

I think I realized why they don't put a reverse gear on these bikes: You spend so much time going backwards in the project

                            Two general questions:

Is there a correct orientation of the carb boots? (upside down vs. right side up?)

Any reason not to polish the float bowls? Figured if I take em down might as well give em a bit of shine

Ah I see what you are saying now... While you have the carbs off you can use a dremel to cut the slot in that screw.

Polish up those float bowls and the carb caps while you are at it..

Already got a new one last week with the exhaust gaskets.

Doing some studying now before I pull off the carbs. Uggg I hate doing that but I won't whine because its not an engine overhaul.
