Carb swap

Hey.
I have a 1978 GS550 that I've had carb issues on and off for ages. I finally got
fed up and made a drastic move and made a manifold and installed an SU HIF4 carb.
This has proven to be the best thing I could have done. One carb very simple to adjust
starts on a dime. Cold/Hot doesn't matter. If anyone wants to stay stock that's cool
But if you are tired of all the BS of having 4 carbs. consider other options like this.

I'll get some photos of the set up.The GS550 engine is mounted on a one off tractor i am building
but the engine is still mounted to the frame cradle of the motorcycle. so the carb set up is going
to be no different. BTW sorry I didn't get back sooner I had my usual honey do's.

here is the intake. I using photobucket and i choose img code and it said copied i pasted it in the insert image address bar. is this correct? Iv'e never worked with images in a forum

That's the issue, don't worry about the insert image icon if you are copying from photobucket. Just paste it directly into your message

I like it!,I'm just glad you are so far away or else my wife would want it,let us know how it works,but I would go easy trying to plough,don't think the clutch would thank you-how have you worked the power take off for attachments???.Johnny

That poor engine is going to cook to death. Any way to rig up a fan of some sort to provide some air circulation?

I wrapped the exhaust so this helped greatly with radiant heat. plus I'm going to put on an oil cooler as
soon as you let me know on your inventory on the adapter. also it has twin 120mm fans.In taking
in considering clutch wear I have the final drive low. I can actually ride it in 6TH gear without a load.
The manifold I made originally was a center carb mount in relation to the ports but for my application
the air cleaner tube was in the way. One more thing other people have used Amal carbs. The Amal
carb though have sever issues with premature throttle shaft wear. The point of this thread was to
show others even on a motorcycle this is very doable option. Yes the carb sticks out the side,but
if you want something very reasonably priced this could be an option.
