On the pick ups it measures around 64 Ohms for both sides, which is correct (supposedly).

According to electrical guy it could point to actual igniter/cdi unit being faulty.
Sound right? He has another one I can borrow to test. He also suggested getting Honda units which will fire each coil individually, as opposed to the Suzuki unit which controls both coils on one box.

I have some backfire through exhaust, occasional loud pop and even a flame or two every now and then. It sounds like it wants to start, but not.

Also going to clean another set of carbs and fit them over the weekend, as the choke mechanism on current one doesn't work.

That sounds right for the signal generator 60 - 80ohms each side from memory.

The ignitor dying on these is a little too common unfortunately which is why I went the Dynatek route. You can always see if there's a DS3-3C kit on eBay cheap somewhere...

There are tests in the Clymer for testing the signal generator which are worth trying, I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Not sure on the Honda setup but if he knows his stuff he should able to adapt it to work, just make sure he gives you lots of info on what parts he's used etc.

He says that any of the CB750 series Cdi units will do the trick. Just something about a common connecting wire.

I am going to borrow a Suzuki unit from him to test first and see if it is indeed the problem.
Is the manual on Bascliff's site the Clymer version?

Interesting... if you do go that path get as much info about it as you can, I've never heard that before...

BassCliff has both the Clymer and Haynes on there.

I tested (as best I could understand) according to Clymer manual and I can say with 99% certainty it is the igniter box. Zero spark going through, but I will borrow a replacement unit to test for sure.

The guy said that the Honda units control each coil separately and will still alow the bike to run, unlike the Suzuki unit that controls both coils and if it is faulty, there will be no spark.

So at least a bit of progress...

Cool, and yeah I won't be surprised with the ignitor... they seem quite flaky.

Couldn't find the problem - even with a borrowed igniter box.

Going back to electrical dude on Wednesday to sort out and get running!

Well as far as things go, that's probably a good thing that the borrowed box didn't just fix it

Maybe he can make up for the mess he made?

Got the bike back. It runs!

Apparently the carbs were quite blocked (after I cleaned them last year).
Anyway...left hand intake o-ring ended up in the carb! Not sure how that happened...

                    Dash lights work:

I have to mod the mounting for the rev counter. Guys made up incorrect banjo fitting for the brake line....

Electric dude also put some diodes on the coil lines.

These flash when there is power on the coils. This will make it easier to diagnose in the future.

We have some horrible stormy weather, but will try and get a video tomorrow.

Excellent stuff Wally... gummed up carbs hey? And here I was going off at your electrical dude

Glad she's running, keen to see the video

It still doesn't explain the no spark issue...

Any way... Struggling to upload video.
She runs rough and only on choke and not too much throttle.

Came home about an hour later this morning and smelled gas, then found this:

Fuel leaks out the pods, which either means carb or petcock issue...

                        Any ideas?

On hold for the next month as we are moving house end June, then I can clean and rebuild another set of carbs.

On the plus side, I polished the gas cap and put the front fender on:

Still have to fit chain, shifter and adjust carbs (which is a task I am postponing...).

Definitely sounds like carb work's in order Wally! Running only on choke tells me you've still got fuel varnish in the pilot circuit.

The fuel running out could be float valve related, but even then if the fuel tap is turning off properly there shouldn't be a source of fuel to flood them, so I'd say your fuel tap is dodgy...

Take the tank off and let it sit for a while, bet you get a puddle of fuel under it...

I also have to make a block-off for the tach drive...forgot about that...

....or run a line to a catch bottle and save that fuel. I can't imagine what fuel costs there. I'd have to agree with Pete on having to use the choke, you may still have carb issues. Your running pods, did you incqease the main jets? Thanks for the link brother, I'll subscribe later so I can follow.

I haven't changed any jets yet. The plan was just to get it running and fine tune from there. It had no wiring or anything on when I started so I didn't know if it would start or not.
