Get the part number Wally, it could be right for your brother's bike if his is an '83, or of course if you can pinch the signal generator and rotor from his, then they could be a match up for yours until his is ready.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Dropped the bike of for electrical work and the guy gave me a really weird look when I rocked up with the mangled loom.
He said apparently I didn't need the igniter box, as I was running points and there were condensers (the small round thingies attached to the coils) on the coils. But the good news is, the parts bike I bought had magnetic pick-ups, so we are going to convert from points to magnetic pick-up and then we will need the igniter box.
Does this sound correct? I wondered why my loom had no igniter connector on, but the parts bike had. Would explain why my igniter was missing.
I must still post some shots of the parts bike...

Your motor has points??!! See that's why we needed to see pic's from under the timing cover
But yeah, he's right that the signal generator and rotor from the parts bike should sort that out nicely for you.
You will need to use the coils as well as I believe the condensors will cause you some grief without points.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Well, I learn something new each day...
Do you have a shot of your rotor, please Pete?
I need to go through the box of parts to try and locate it.
Thanx Cory. It will stand there for a while until I have time (and money ) to tackle it.

Here 'tis Wally, but the only photos I have are comparing with the Dynatek stuff.
The stock rotor on the advance mechanism (that's the Dynatek rotor beside it on the right):
Stock rotor on the left again:
And the only half decent photo of the signal generator. It's still installed with the rotor and I'm holding the Dynatek:

Thanx so much Pete!
As always, you are a great help!
I found the whole mechanism.
Signal generator is with the electrical dude.
Just wanted to check that I am not missing anything else?
Thanx again!

Excellent. The bolt and 19mm nut should be on the existing points setup so you should be good to go.
Just one tip though is that one looks a little crusty, so dismantle it and clean it up with some kerosene or something. Use some engine oil to lube it up when reassembling it. It should rotate smoothly and spring back quickly.
When dismantling, be careful of the two circlips flicking off and there's also a very thin washer under the rotor that's easy to lose.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Picking her up on the way to work or home tomorrow.
