How much fiberglass resin did you use when you made your tail section?

I had my doubts about the CB tank, but man it looks great. The seat/cowl section is excellent. Nice work.

Never saw this thread until now. Nice work, where in CO are you? I'd like to come check it out some time.

How is it going with getting the kick starter to work with the rearsets?

I have been thinking about this on a 550, but I haven't got it thunk out all the way yet.

It really didn't take much resin to do the tail section. I believe I used just shy of a quart. Some of it was wasted in the cup and some was used for other projects I was working on. I used a Polyester resin made by a company called Plasticare. Impact resin I believe.

Hey tkent, I'm currently in the Boulder area. Love to have you if your ever in town.

The 750 I have has a starter. Not sure how this design would work for your 550 but I would be happy to help you figure something out if you wanted to give it a shot.

                Update

                Hey Guys,

So progress has been slow as of late due to well ya know... life.

Anyway, I was able to get my headlight and gauges mounted. I finished up the seat pad (an old leather jacket my father gave me years ago). The seat cowl is ready for paint, and I started painting the wheels.

Next up is the exhaust, relocating the ignition cylinder, and getting the battery tray finished up.

                Cheers,

                CCS

Thanks! That works out perfect because I just bought a quart to do my tail section. The leather seat looks great by the way.

Tkent I have a 750 and used 94' gxsr1100 rearsets. They fit the angle of the frame perfect and they move the pegs far enough back that they clear the kickstarter. Give them a look and see if they will work for you.

Looking good! I'm glad I'm not the only one taking a while to get their project done. However mine has sat in my garage for well over a year now, untouched, since I moved in

Hey thanks! I hear ya, It is nice to step away and work on the bike for a couple of hours here and there though! Maybe just go out there and stare at it awhile, it can be motivating haha.

It is an uncommon occurrence for someone to take the tank to blend the lines from the tank into the tail section as smoothly as you have done. Too many times you will see a bike that looks good but then you find that angle that shows the tank and tail are misaligned etc. Great job.

                              Thanks Guys!

Hey quick question, I'm hoping to develop a line of tail sections/seats, do you think there is room in the market for handmade product like this?

I think a better place to ask about custom seats and tails would be over at DotheTon.
Good luck with the rest of the project.and put some air in your front tire before the next shake down run.haha.
