Best order of disassembly?
I am tearing my 1978 gs 750 down to the frame. Got the engine out last night. I was thinking remove the seat, then rear fender, then rear wheel. Then start up front. Anyone have any suggestions on the best order of disassembly?Tags: None

it depends on what equipment you have to help you. is the bike on the ground,on a bike stand, propped up on a wooden box?
generally you would start from the top and work your way down until all that is left is the front wheel and suspension and rear end.
then drop the whole front end off in one go followed by the rear, (or vice versa) depending on how you got the bike supported1978 GS1085.
Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

Right now she is sitting on her centerstand.
I have a come along that I can use as a hoist. Attached to a beam in the shop, I'm sure it would safely lift the whole bike as it sits now.

Rear end:
Detach any wires/hose, remove the rear shocks, then remove the swingarm pivot bolt and pull the swingarm out of the frame. Your rear end should slide out as one assembly, wheel and all.
Front end:
Detach any wires/hose, remove the front wheel, remove the steering stem bolts and locknuts, then slide the forks out of the frame.Last edited by Guest; 10-30-2012, 09:16 PM.
