Make it your own, nothing wrong with that.Better than rusting outside next to some fence where a lot of these "classic bikes end up.http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/u...00080021-1.jpg

long way along now
well been a while since i updated this. didnt figure to many folks would be interested in the way i went so i just stopped. but i figured why not. i got plenty of pics or atleast i think so . so where I stopped i had cut most of the frame and redone the seat portion of the frame. Swapped sides with the shock holders and lowered the angle of the rear of the seat frame so it wasn't going to be straing across. Since then i have bought three tanks none of which fit the frame properly so i had to modify the frame for the tank. I have replaced all the bearings or will have them replaced when i put it back together. I have cut the springs off and replaced with PVC pipe for a stiffer ride. bought new blinkers, tail light, headlight, and today i got the frame and other odds and ends painted. Tomorrow i will finish up the paint and let it dry for a week before i reassemble it. I got new tires and changed my rims to tubeless rewired the electrical system to include all but two of the headlight relay mods, rearranged the way the battery sits in the bike and where the electrical components mount, I am going with a digital speedo, tach and fule guage register it also has idiot lights on it. So without further wait here is the pics from where i stopped to where i am now

my welder had some operator error so it didn't lay down a bead like i wanted so i had to bondo up the ugly. but i ground it off and tried again getting a better weld. Here is my frame modification i did so the tank would fit without worries. Oh also the paint store sold me some single stage and i never painted with it it went down great looked good only used reducer in it and when i went to put clear on top it wrinkled like dress shirt that was wadded up in the bottom of a closet. I had to sand it all off strip it what ever it took to get it off so i could start again.

what the clear made the single stage paint do
got my new blinkers in for the rear and tail light so i finished up the bracket for that and checked the fitting of the blinkers. I just need front blinkers now.
second paint job and my gas tank that i am going to paint black just not sure if i am going to put an orange stripe or three down the tank or not yet.

Looks like you've been having a blast! I want that garage. That is some serious modding to the frame you did there, everything come out straight? Looking forward to the finished product.

It did all come out straight even though the frame looks crooked I had to bend that one side to miss the sending unit and petcock, but the measurements all came out right from the ones I had before I cut it. The shop doesn't belong to me it is my step dads he lets me use it.

is that another GS your buddy is building? Man, if that would have happened to me with the paint I probably would have had to get another frame after having taken a large hammer to the other one. is that seat pan made from the sign, cool idea.

That is why I had to get another tank..... Yeah I cut it out of an old aluminum sign I found buried under some leaves and pine needles. That is an 82 gs1100 gl that he is doing along side mine

My wife says she's a fan of the orange. Did you ride it with that smaller triple tree? did it ride any different as compared with the E forks in the L triple. I pushed my forks up through the triple just under an inch and it seems to enjoy cornering faster now. I have the L forks and L triple, curious how different it rides considering the slight rake in the frame.

I never rode it with the E triple on it but I didn't notice a difference with E forks and L triple in riding. BUT I didn't ride it for very long or very hard the front brakes were locking up and I didn't trust it .
Painted some on tank incase I want to put a couple stripes off set from center.

I got that bracket welded on and finally got all mine back together. Not quite the job your doing, but it was nice to drive to the gas station. That bike is looking awesome.
