My GS 1000 engine swap rebuild
I got a GS 1000 with title at an salvage parts auction for $50 I only planned on using it for parts for my other GS 1000 but after finding out it had a title I was soon searching for a motor. Then 2 weeks ago I traded for another GS 1000 with cranking motor without spark and no title. I plan an engine swap, I got spark finally trying to figure out the wiring, with the Dyna 2000 ignition, I have a rusty tank with no cap or petcock, the key for my ignition switch doesn't work. I would like to convert it into a rat/survival bike.Last edited by Guest; 12-27-2012, 12:44 PM.Tags: None

Pic
Pic of the two bikes just removed the motor from the titled frame. I thought they were both 78s the one with the title has the choke nob by the handle bars and the other one has spoke wheels 19" rear wheel and doesnt seem to have the indicator unit. Both frames seem to be pretty similar just a few different tabs

You did get a Megawelcome?
Greetings and Salutations, (EDIT: Please DO NOT "Reply" to this thread to introduce yourself. This is an informational post only. Feel free to start a new thread in the "GS Owners" section of the forum to introduce yourself. Thanks!) Every once in a while I will miss a new member or two and they may not
There's a service manual in there and pretty much everything you'll want to know about your 1000s
It looks like you have a 78 GS 1000 standard model (often redundantly referred to as the C) with the wire wheels
The other bike is too difficult to determine from the photos, it's a 79 or 80 E model most likelyLast edited by Big T; 12-27-2012, 12:53 PM.1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Shes running
50 degrees today so I decided to try to slip my carbs into the boots, hooked up a tank and she fired right up. I have got my tank sanded down and used red-kote to line the inside, found an ignition, petcock and tank cap, on ebay and now I'm trying to track down some guages locally. I will get more pics.
