    GS1000S Restore roject

    Hi guys.
As I am new to the site and this is my firts restoration project I need all the help I can get.
Bike is a 1979 GS1000S that my brother bought new from a dealer in Del Rio, Texas while he was stationed there (US Air Force)
I bought the bike from him in 2000. The bike had not ridden since 1985.

I was lucky enough to be working for Vance & Hines Motorsports at the time as a machinist. At that time they were in Trinidad, CO. Byron and chief engine tech Steve Tartaglia involved in the engine rebuild (Steve is at Schumacher Racing now).

Bike was stripped to frame and just as the engine was nearing finish Vance & Hines re-located to Indy. I was asked to go with them but declined.
The project was put in a box and has been there until last month when the wife motivated me to "get it done". Read, no more bikes until I finish this one!!

The engine is at SG cycles in Apache Junction and Stephen is finishing up the clutch, ignition and cam work.
With any luck will be done and ready for install mid-Feb.
Currently going thru all the boxes of parts to see waht I have and don't have. I should have a list by next weekend and will start looking for the missing/needed parts which I will post in the hope that someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks for taking the time to read my long winded story. I will be uploading pictures as soon as I figure out how.

        Thanks Vmass.
Glad I stumbled on the site.
I'm 54 and not the best on this internet stuff but having to learn quick.
Just hope after carting all the parts around for 10 years and 4 states the list isn't too long.
Of course that's if I can even remember how to put it back together.
CRS is starting to set in!

Here is a link to my project, maybe you will find some help here.

Are you doing a restoration project of some kind on a GS? Let everyone see what you are doing by posting the details here.

I also took lots of pictures during, so if you find you need a picture of something, just ask.

            Parts List

Hit the garage today and unpacked a few boxes to see if anything jumps out at me for a "must need" and I found it.

Seat pan is rusted thru next to the hinges.
            Anyone have a extra?
I found 2 on EBAY, 1 not much better and 1 in Vetnam for $300 (including shipping).

I also noticed I have no turn signals.

Have turn signals. Not pristine, not ugly. How many you need?

                Tutorial on posting photos here...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...t_pictures.pdf

I have restored two S's so let me know if I can be of any assistance.

BTW, the S turn signals are common with some other GS models, like the 850 and other 1000's.
