Whats with the 'crzsy straw' shift linkage? Never seen one quite like it before.

PS Upgrade those shocks and brakes next

It will definitely flex if hard up or downshifts are employed.

It looks real sweet. And yes the shaft approach is to be commended! Won't see yourself on every other street corner.

cut the tail off last night..moved it back about 1 inch or 2 and raised it up instead of being flush...looks more of a sport now..also going to redo the seat, and put orginial side covers on

Getting there. The seat / tail is still a bit off to my eye, should be a bit taller, but that's just me. Did you also remove the blinkers? They looked goofy hanging out back there, but I like them for functional / safety reasons....

Do you find the rearsets cramp your legs with the low seat?

You might find that the original covers won't fit too well with your non-stock airbox.

That airbox is from an '82 or '83 bike, and the shape of the trim pieces does not match with the '81 side covers.

Ignore the mis-matched colors here, but this is how it will look:

Not too bad looking! I like the orange w/ white color scheme. What I find truly amazing is you shot the first set of pics where Lil' Wayne's Baby Momma once was!
