You can see the orange/white wire on my wiring diagram feeding the coils
That's where I'm getting the burn!

Have you gone through the Ignition Module power check sequence ?
Did the LED go on then off ?

Is the crank set in such a position that when you switch on you should have a spark ? it's possible with the "S" to my knowledge to burn out a trigger if the crank is in the right position and it's left turned on....I don't know if this applies to the 2000.

Nah mate only got to the first stage of the process to check the power to the module. thats when I got the nasty burn and smell to find my orange/white wires melting in the harness. i didnt even get a light on the module at all.

I think I may have made a short circuit by using BOTH my wires from the harness instead of one and bridging it across like it looks in the dynatek diagram...ready to go to work with a sledge hammer, some matches and 5 litres of fuel.

Yeah, I'd worked out from the OE wiring diagram what you'd used for power. Shouldn't make a blind bit of difference, one wire or two.

Are you using Dyna coils or the OE ones ? If Dyna, have you got a short across from the electrical terminals on the end to the mounting points ?
And again, make sure the crank isn't aligned in firing position when you turn the power on.

I'm a complete idiot part of a wire had a millimetre of crimp showing that was touching the frame

Glad you found it! I haven't seen the 2000 before but those instructions look similar to the DS3 kits... they're definitely a little light on but on the plus side if you send 'em an email for some help they'll reply pretty quick with good answers.

Thats a blessing in disguise mate. I wish i just ripped the wires out of mine and re did the whole harness.... seriously. With the upgrades ive made at the front end, i had to relocate about five handfuls of wiring, which somehow (and im not sure how) i managed to hide under the tank. So many redundant wires now :s

Hey Nick thanks for the bump

Its been a while, Ive been riding the beast in stock trim for a few months but have been plagued by wiring issues that I fixed by replacing the ignition with a dynatek 2000..took a little fabricating but the difference was incredible.
So that leaves me at about early September where I managed to find a cheap front end off an 05 Gsxr600 ( for 450 bucks!) that I planned to put on at some stage down the track.
So my front brakes started locking on and I couldn't be bothered rebuilding any more old crappy rusted Zook parts, which led me here..FORK swap time!

this is how she looked..bit scary as this is the first time I have ripped into the original, you GS lovers might want to turn away

check out the difference in trees..think it wont fit..think again
